Minimum Qualifications

The Student Financial Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting the Bursar's Office by assisting with the daily operations and management of the student revenue cycle at Louisiana State University Shreveport (LSUS). This position primarily involves helping students understand their accounts, addressing inquiries via phone and email, and ensuring accurate financial transactions are recorded. The coordinator is responsible for responding to student questions about tuition, fees, and other account-related issues, providing clear and concise explanations to help students navigate their financial obligations. In addition to student support, the coordinator assists with various administrative and accounting functions, including preparing journal entries and maintaining accurate records of financial transactions. By managing these tasks, the Student Financial Coordinator helps ensure the smooth processing of payments, refunds, and adjustments, while contributing to the efficient operation of the Bursar’s Office. This role also requires strong communication and customer service skills, a keen attention to detail, and a solid understanding of accounting practices, making it a critical position in the management of student accounts and financial processes at LSUS.

Responsibilities and Duties

Work closely with the Bursar to assist with oversight and supervision of the following:

  • Research and respond to student emails in the accounting services general email account.
  • Communicate with students, staff, and faculty regarding issues such as:
  1. Drop for non-payment
  2. Payment plan adjustments
  3. Collection procedures
  • Generate, maintain, and manage student parking decals.
  • Coordinate with Financial Aid, Registrar, and the Bursar's Office to resolve student account issues.
  • Serve as a backup cashier, assisting with cash handling and transactions as needed.
  • Post journal entries, maintain a journal entry log, and ensure all journal entries are scanned and stored in the database.
  • Manage and order departmental office supplies, create requisitions and receipts in Workday.
  • Complete the annual property inventory count and maintain inventory records for Accounting Services.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the Bursar's Office and Accounting Services.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • A minimum of two years relevant experience in business operations or general finance and accounting

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Proven experience in providing premium customer service
  • Ability to think creatively and approach challenges with innovative solutions
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving abilities
  • Previous experience in an institution of higher education preferred
  • Ability to handle detailed, high-volume tasks under varying time constraints
  • Comfortable working in a results-oriented, fast-paced environment as part of a small team
