Overview

Responsible for providing security screening services that seek to create a safe and secure environment for the hospital community. The Security Officer undertakes activities designed to identify, deter, abate, or correct situations; both routine and emergent that are within the scope of responsibility for the department, as they occur on hospital owned or controlled property.

Responsibilities

Physical Environment of Care

  • Patrol hospital buildings and premises to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and intruders.
  • Monitor conduct of visitors on hospital premises.
  • Confront unauthorized persons for questioning as needed.
  • Screen visitors, patients and team members at entrances.
  • Report safety and/or fire hazards or security violations.

Departmental Support

  • Complete incident report on any significant security incident or concern, relays safety related information as appropriate.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Identify items that are minimally required to perform the essential functions of this position.

Preferred or Specialized

Not required to perform the essential functions of the position.

Education:

High School diploma or highest level of post-secondary education.

Associate or Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice law enforcement

Experience:

Military, law enforcement and/or security experience is highly preferred.

License(s)/Certification(s):

Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons. 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Ability to de-escalate violent, aggressive, or disruptive persons. Use of critical thinking in a high stress environment. Excellent observation skills.

Other:

Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
