Scholar Rock is a biopharmaceutical company that discovers, develops, and delivers life-changing therapies for people with serious diseases that have high unmet need. As a global leader in the biology of the transforming growth factor beta (TGFβ) superfamily of cell proteins and named for the visual resemblance of a scholar rock to protein structures, the clinical-stage company is focused on advancing innovative treatments where protein growth factors are fundamental. Over the past decade, the company has created a pipeline with the potential to advance the standard of care for neuromuscular disease, cardiometabolic disorders, cancer, and other conditions where growth factor-targeted drugs can play a transformational role.

Scholar Rock is the only company to show clinical proof of concept for a muscle-targeted treatment in spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). This commitment to unlocking fundamentally different therapeutic approaches is powered by broad application of a proprietary platform, which has developed novel monoclonal antibodies to modulate protein growth factors with extraordinary selectivity. By harnessing cutting-edge science in disease spaces that are historically under-addressed through traditional therapies, Scholar Rock works every day to create new possibilities for patients. Summary of Position:

The successful candidate will be responsible for design, execution, analysis, and reporting of biomarker studies to accelerate translational research. The ideal candidate will possess proficiency across multiple techniques and clear understanding of how to relate results to mechanism of action, drug response, pharmacodynamics, patient selection, and understanding of the variability in treatment response. This position requires a high degree of independence in lab activities and managing external labs (e.g., CROs), and comfort interfacing directly and communicating with program team leads to design novel assays. They will have the ability to balance competing priorities in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Independently design and execute translational research to discover and validate biomarkers associated with mechanism of action, drug response, pharmacodynamics, patient selection, and understanding of the variability in treatment response
  • Independently design and execute translational research to explore novel indications, treatment combinations, and questions arising from clinical studies
  • Purposely collaborate with multiple cross-functional teams to develop scientifically rigorous translational and exploratory biomarker strategies
  • Supporting scientific input and reviewing of all translational science aspects of clinical and regulatory documents
  • Management of external laboratories (e.g., CROs), which includes vendor selection, technical oversight, budgets, and maintaining project timelines.
  • Independently prepare and maintain all necessary lab instruments and reagents.
  • Contributes to a work environment that cultivates curiosity, purposeful collaborations, and focuses on unmet patient needs.

Candidate Requirements:

  • BS/MS in biology or related discipline with 10+ years industry lab experience or a PhD with 5+ years of related lab experience, preferably in industry.
  • Experience in standard techniques for measuring RNA and proteins, molecular biology techniques, and assay development for biomarker discovery
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently, highly organized, and desire to learn new skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, and GraphPad Prism.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
