The Opportunity
Reporting to CZ Biohub SF’s Director of Communications, the Research Communications Specialist will play a significant role in executing its day-to-day external communications related to CZ Biohub SF’s research accomplishments and scientific culture. As needed, the Research Communications Specialist will also contribute to external communications related to sister institutions in the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub Network, especially CZ Biohub Chicago and CZ Biohub New York.
Working closely with CZ Biohub staff scientists and engineers, as well as with researchers at our top-ranked partner universities, the Research Communications Specialist will identify scientific studies, trends, and people that exemplify the Biohub’s uniquely collaborative, open, and inclusive approach to science.
The Research Communications Specialist will plan and create accurate, engaging, and accessible content in a range of media, including social media, and will also work with external vendors and freelance creatives to raise awareness of CZ Biohub SF’s work for a wide science-interested audience, with a primary focus on the biomedical science community. The Research Communications Specialist will also help plan and execute communications for high-profile CZ Biohub scientific events and will craft and roll out effective announcements for institutional milestones.
In addition, the Research Communications Specialist will help to devise strategy to engage with writers and journalists across print, broadcast, and digital media to garner coverage of CZ Biohub SF and the CZ Biohub Network in major national and international outlets.
The ideal candidate will be creative, entrepreneurial, and highly collaborative, with a passion for the life sciences and technological innovation. Strong writing, editing, and project management skills, as well as a deep understanding of science communications, are essential.

Compensation
New hires are typically hired into the lower portion of the range, enabling employee growth in the range over time. To determine starting pay, we consider multiple job-related factors including a candidate’s skills, education and experience, market demand, business needs, and internal parity.
