Job Summary

The Work Study Student will support the Office of Financial Aid as a Information Specialist on the Statesboro Campus beginning Spring 2025. The Information Specialist responds to United Way¿s 211 Information and Referral Call Center telephone lines in a prompt and courteous fashion, gathering key information from callers and providing appropriate referrals. By matching callers¿ needs to services, the 211 Information Specialist serves a critical role in United Way¿s community services.

Student employees cannot work more than 1300 hours in a 12-consecutive month period.

Responsibilities

  • Use active listening and interviewing skills while speaking with callers in order to uncover needs.
  • Work independently as a resource to callers and also collaboratively as a member of the 211 call-center team.
  • Demonstrate empathy in serving people in need while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Maintain sensitivity and professionalism while speaking with people from a variety of socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Use problem solving skills to help callers prioritize needs and find appropriate referrals.
  • Match callers to available resources.
  • Maintain accurate and complete call records for each call received and record direct assistance within the I&R database(s) and software platform(s).
  • Demonstrate and maintain proficiency in effectively using call center database software, computer hardware, and telephone equipment.

Shift Specifics

  • Up to 12 hours per week
  • Flexible with schedule of availability
  • This position will be located off-campus. Travel arrangements to and from the off-campus site will be up to the student to organize. Students will clock-in once they arrive at the location.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours at Georgia Southern University.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Must be Federal Work eligible.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Experience

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database software preferred. 
  • Customer service experience.

Proposed Salary

$15.00 per hour

This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.
