The successful candidate will serve as a Sharp Facilities Mechanic, supporting a multi-building pharmaceutical packaging facility / cGMP environment in Allentown, PA. The Facilities Mechanic will report to the Manager, Facilities – Hard Services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following is a list of minimum responsibilities related to the Facilities Mechanic position. Other duties may also be assigned.
- Safely operate and maintain (1) 210,000 ft2 warehouse and (3) production buildings totaling 320,000 ft2. Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:
- Mechanical including HVAC (rooftop units, dehumidifier units, exhaust fans), temperature/humidity/differential pressure calibrations, automatic storage and retrieval system, air compressors (including regulators, filters, dryers), HEPA filter certifications and replacements, etc.
- Electrical including switchgear, transformers, emergency generators, automatic transfer switches, power distribution panels, interior and exterior lighting and panels,
- Plumbing including boilers, water treatment, sprinkler piping, potable water lines & fittings, sanitary drain lines & fittings, storm drains, etc
- Building automation system (Siemens Desigo)
- Fire life safety systems (panels, detectors, horns, strobes, etc.)
- Door operators and door hardware, dock levelers
- Fit and finish including, but not limited to, patching, painting, caulking, doors, windows, ceiling tiles, flooring, etc.
- Passenger elevator
- Building envelope (roofing, expansion joints)
- Perform preventive maintenance of facilities and facilities equipment. Promptly and properly document the completion of such work in the CMMS system.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose and perform corrective maintenance of facilities and facilities equipment. Promptly and properly document the completion of such work in the CMMS system.
- Guide vendor partners to perform preventive and corrective maintenance of facilities and facilities equipment. Promptly and properly document the completion of such work in the CMMS system.
- Obtain quotations and proposals from vendor partners for the maintenance and replacement of facilities equipment as necessary.
- Routinely conduct 1) field inspections of facilities and facilities equipment to identify items requiring maintenance and 2) rounds and readings of facilities equipment to ensure proper operation. Promptly reports findings to the Manager, Facilities – Hard Services.
- Respond to BAS alarms and determine root cause. Take appropriate action to promptly and properly address root cause.
- Trace utilities and perform LOTO in support of the maintenance and improvement of facilities and facilities equipment.
- Strictly adhere to all applicable GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) and GDPs (Good Documentation Practices).
- Support the capital planning process by identifying equipment that is at the end of its useful service life or should otherwise be replaced.
- Work extended hours beyond a traditional work schedule to include, but not limited to, evenings, weekends, extended shifts, and/or extra shifts as needed, sometimes with little or no notice.
- Routinely identify opportunities for optimization, enhancements, energy savings and operational improvements of facilities and facilities equipment to increase efficiency and effectiveness, and to maximize quality.
- Comply with all Sharp safety rules, policies, and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:

- 5-8 years of experience as a facilities mechanic, or as a specialist within the MEP trades, is required.
- Biopharma experience in a cGMP environment is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with BAS equipment and controls is preferred.
- Well-versed in the preventive, predictive & corrective maintenance and operation of industrial and commercial equipment, especially HVAC.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong technical skills and attention to detail.
- Solid verbal and written communication skills to a broad audience.
- Computer Skills including one or more brands of CMMS, one or more brands of QMS, and MS Office products.
