Position Summary

Monitors daily operations in an assigned laboratory section of responsibility.

Job function: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Phlebotomy Supervisor to lead a team of approximately 10 lab assistants. The ideal candidate must possess hands-on phlebotomy experience, a valid national phlebotomy certification, and current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.

As a supervisor, you will not only be responsible for overseeing and guiding your team, but you will also be expected to perform phlebotomy collections as needed. The ability to mentor and support team.

Schedule: Night shift; 4x10s, Sunday through Saturday variable; 8:30pm to 7:00am

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates workflow in the laboratory and coordinates with sections to ensure service delivery is met.
  • Regularly communicates with Manager on day to day operations.
  • Works cooperatively with all customers and responds effectively to meet or exceed the customer needs.
  • Provides laboratory education to departments outside of the laboratory as needed.
  • Orients and trains team members.
  • Evaluates team competency.
  • Completes performance competency evaluations.
  • Recognizes and provides positive feedback and reward for performance and addresses disciplinary action for all team members of an assigned section. Schedules staff to meet workload requirements while minimizing expense.
  • Process and monitors laboratory testing following established policies and procedures to ensure the highest quality of laboratory results within established timeframes.
  • Evaluates and documents all specimen quality issues.
  • Monitors work flow to ensure acceptable levels of performance are maintained and that corrective action is taken as required.
  • Monitors compliance of all departmental and hospital policies.
  • Performs all duties as assigned including secretarial, reference and administrative duties for the department.
  • Manages various human resources functions including hiring, work assignments, coaching plans, and performance counseling.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state

and local standards.

  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Other Related Functions

  • Supervises time entry for accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies for section.
  • Maintains an active role in the laboratories quality improvement program (incident reports, CAP surveys, TAT’s service

guarantees).

  • Enforces departmental compliance of all safety and infection control practices.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient record and hospital and departmental issues at all levels.
  • Provides significant input for and leads departmental meetings as directed by the manager.
  • Pathology Lab Support Services Coordinator transcribes reports and oversees the transcriptionists working in the office.
  • Oversees and operates the department dictation system.

Qualifications

Education/Training

High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Licensure/Certification

None.

Experience

Three (3) years related experience.
