The Providence Public School District (PPSD) serves approximately 22,000 students attending our 37 schools. PPSD employs more than 3,200 professionals who work in and provide support to our schools, which include 20 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, 11 high schools and 2 public district charter schools. Of our employees, approximately 2,000 are educators, and more than 600 others directly support students and families in our schools.

Our schools are diverse learning communities. Approximately 68% of our students are Latinx, 15% Black, 7% White, 4% Asian, 5.5% Multi-racial and 1% Native American. Approximately 40% of students are multilingual learners, and about 16% of students receive special education services. Approximately 55% of students come from homes where English is not the primary language spoken. Combined, our students and families speak more than 55 different languages and hail from 91 countries of origin.

Responsible for providing assistance to computer users in schools and departments, the Computer Management Specialist assists users with software installations, upgrades, inter-application issues, as well as Network client installation and configuration. They provides basic Network connectivity and trouble shooting, and train users to resolve basic problems and expand their knowledge of technology.

Must provide own reliable transportation.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education: Such as may have been gained through an Associate’s degree (preferred) and; A minimum of two positions will require a current A+ or Network+ certifications.

Experience: Such as may have been gained through two or more years experience working in schools, providing similar services, preferred. Three or more years experience using and supporting Microsoft Office software. Three or more years using and supporting Windows operating systems (Windows 10/latest Windows OS version). One or more years experience using and supporting MAC applications and MAC OS. Demonstrated proficiency working with latest Windows 2016 and 2019 Server Operating Systems. Experience with Cisco technologies including routers, switches access points and VOIP.

Or, any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • A valid US Driver’s License.

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT USED: 

  • Dependable transportation. 
  • Computer to support schools PC to complete administrative tasks. 
  • PC tool kit to perform minor repairs, maintenance and installations. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Capable of lifting fifty pounds. 
  • Adheres to semi-professional dress code

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

  • Travel between assigned sites. 
  • Work in school environments and in nonpublic areas within the schools which are only periodically cleaned.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides onsite support with setup and operation of computers and printers, installation of systems software; installation, configuration, and support of district approved software; assists and supports with PPSD network (internet, MS Office Suite, MS O365 Cloud Applications, and any other applications that are implemented in the district); inspect and troubleshoot problems with computers and their peripherals, Network Devices, etc.
  • Continued support in areas of problem diagnosis and recommended repair, etc. 
  • Assists and supports with application software for educational and administrative purposes. 
  • Responsible for providing training on MS Office/O365 Cloud applications and any other district software that will be used by the teachers, students or administration. 
  • May be required to support multiple sites. 
  • Responds to inquiries for solutions to problems using existing software packages as they are developed for school use. This includes training and support in these areas. 
  • Acts as technology consultant to the school or department organization. 
  • Works with the technical contact persons in their assigned schools or department and act as an interface with assigned sites and Office of Technology (OT). Assists with the training of the designated technical contract person. 
  • Supports desktop operating systems, MAC OS, and Windows. 
  • Will complete Helpdesk duties that include supporting all technical requests from end-users and creation of district Work Order Tickets. 
  • Provides updates, status and completion information to Senior Director of Technology or their designee, problem request tracking system and/or users. 
  • Reinstall defective or inadequate software packages. 
  • Process, diagnose and repair broken devices in Depot
  • Assists school personnel with recommended Network designs. 
  • Provides Network technical support to school departments. 
  • Trains district personnel in Network use. 
  • Writes and updates technical documentation that described Network functions at the user level. 
  • Installs and configures Network devices at the user desktop and tests for functionality with software on District standards list. 
  • Keeps abreast of changing hardware and software technology. 
  • Assists schools prepare for the opening of school each fall. This includes verifying all systems are operational and fully configured for use with all updates and such. 
  • Responsible for inventory and asset tracking of hardware in the schools. This includes data input of this information in the district system. 
  • Assists, supports and trains in the use of Skyward, as well as any other district software such as MS Office, MS Outlook Exchange, etc. 
  • Assists schools with maintaining and assuring data integrity, security and consistency. 
  • Assists schools in implementing new or modified systems or procedures developed or purchased centrally.
  • Responsible for the coordination of the telephone communication systems within the district that includes Centrex, PBX, VOIP and Cellular. 
  • Working knowledge of telecom equipment such as voice switches, VOIP and traditional systems. 
  • Must understand Cisco Unity (Installing and maintaining) version 7.x and above. 
  • Knowledge of enterprise CCM maintenance, including managing user accounts and connecting CCM’s. 
  • Other duties as assigned by Superintendent or their designate.
