Position Summary
The Director of Project Development is responsible for overseeing the development, execution, and financial close of projects across the WattBridge portfolio and development pipeline. This leadership role ensures the successful management of power generation assets, from initial project origination through commercial operation, meeting both financial and operational goals. This Director collaborates with internal teams, third-party consultants, and external stakeholders, including electric transmission, natural gas, off-takers, water suppliers, permitting authorities, and government entities, to deliver projects on time and within budget.
This role requires expertise in identifying project challenges and implementing cost-effective solutions to optimize asset performance. This Director is also responsible for negotiating and managing project agreements related to construction, funding, operation, and ownership, while leading the due diligence process for financial close.
Position Responsibilities
Asset Management
- Monetize operating portfolio by working with third party Energy Manager
- Manage asset daily settlements in conjunction with Energy Manager
- Interface with asset O&M provider on all reporting requirements
- Meet compliance, regulatory and operating requirements
- Budget development and execution (P&L, operating cost, forecasting)
- Plant operations interface on asset performance
- Offtake, gas, water, transmission agreement management
Asset Development
- Conduct due diligence on prospective project and market locations
- Find land, water, transmission, gas, air and all other project infrastructure solutions
- Work with regulatory, government affairs, permitting authorities, env assessment solutions
- Work with off-takers to establish commercial basis and optimum location of asset
- Manage 3rd party consultants to deliver cost effective development solutions
- Develop project development spend budgets and manage to most cost effective outcome
Project Execution
- Support and leading bank, investor and off-taker due diligence in an effort to close on lender financing, equity capital, and offtake agreements
- Perform post financial close and NTP support of all project execution / construction – eg construction permitting, local authority approvals, transmission interconnect, gas interconnect, water interconnect, ERCOT commissioning, plant start-up
- Serve as IE interface and management during construction and loan draws
- Perform equity partner due diligence / Q&A support
- Manage all project execution reporting requirements associated with lending partners
Deal Development
- Work and develop analytics around market and commercial structure with third parties like ICF, Leidos, Ascend Analytics and PA Consulting
- Identify and develop commercial market opportunity and develop a deal structure and aggregating component pieces into a financeable project
- Work with battery suppliers, renewable developers / owners, offtake hedge providers to assemble a viable project commercial structure
- Build pro formas in cooperation with internal modeling expertise to screen and develop projects to financeable maturity
- Lender and investor interface on raising capital around the WattBridge platform
- Develop market CIM / presentation material to support lender, off-taker and investor outreach
- Develop and manage a green hydrogen production model in concert with internal modeling expertise that advances WattBridge efforts towards a green hydrogen project
- Prove out our 100% hydrogen burn capability as a means to fully “green” the WattBridge platform by working in concert with internal ProEnergy engineering, design and manufacturing personnel
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree; Degree in Engineering preferred
- 10+ years of power generation and/or industry related experience
- Proven project management experience involving large multi-functional tasks and multiple counterparties
- Demonstrated technical, economic and commercial evaluation in supporting decision making
- P&L improvement experience in power generation portfolios
- Proven experience leading and managing multi-functional teams
- Must read, write and speak fluent English.
- Successful candidate will need to satisfactorily complete pre-employment drug screen and background check
