REPORTS TO: Principal
DEFINITION: Provide instructional and leadership services that prepare students with the related academic, critical thinking, computer technology, workplace readiness, and technical skills essential to pursuing career pathways in Computer Science. Perform other duties as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Provide instruction and course/program management at the high school level in areas of computer programming, such as, Advanced Placement (AP) Computer Science A and AP Computer Science Principles.
Provide support to Career and Technology Student Organizations (CTSO’s) such as Future Business Leaders of America.
Develop marketing and public relations efforts to increase student interest and enrollment in the CTE Computer Science completer program.
Convene and plan Computer Science advisory board meetings that support and assess current programming.
Promote career and college pathways related to Computer Science.
Demonstrate knowledge and implement a “hands-on” approach to critical thinking and problem-solving skills needed for current and future employment.
Provide instruction in teamwork, communications, problem solving, decision making, and computer technology which relate to workplace and higher education skills needed in business and industry.
Collaborate with staff and postsecondary institutions to develop and maintain career pathways which prepare students for apprenticeship, community college, or university degree programs.
Prepare instructional materials, maintain equipment, and manage materials of instruction which maximize the resources needed to deliver a diverse instructional program.
Contribute to the mission of the school by striving to attain school improvement plan and career completer goals.
Partner with employers and community groups to promote and advance technical skills.
Participate in recruitment and selection of students.
Create an instructional environment that is conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students.
Communicate standards, achievements, and deficiencies to students and parents. Meet with students and parents.
Maintain complete and accurate student academic, attendance, and disciplinary records. Monitor and assess students’ academic progress.
Collaborate with school administrators, other teachers, paraeducators, parents, and community members in the education of students.
Attend staff meetings. Serve on various committees.
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training and Experience:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in an applicable field. Experience commensurate with requirements for Maryland Professional Educator Certification or License required. Teaching experience preferred. Experience with programming applications, JAVA preferred.
Licenses and Certificates:
Possession of a Maryland Educator Certificate appropriate to the area of assignment.
OR
Possession of, or eligibility for, a Maryland Educator License appropriate to the area of assignment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge and expertise with computer equipment operations and software applications.
Knowledge of curriculum, effective instructional techniques, instructional materials and equipment.
Strong human relations skills and the ability to maintain relationships and open communications with business partners and other stakeholders to identify real-world applications of content.
Effective organization and communication skills. Flexibility in program implementation strategies. Skills in preparing, implementing lesson plans and instructing students.
Skill in communicating with students, their parents, administrators, and others.
Skill in supervising students and managing behavior.
Knowledge of and skill in the use of database, internet, spreadsheet, word processing, and related applications.
Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, parents and staff. Ability to maintain confidential information.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
The work of this class is generally performed in a school environment. Work may require the ability to move around the school and classroom.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Requires attendance at after-school and evening meetings and events.
GRADE: TABCO 10-month pay scale
SALARY: $60,000-$119,522
OTHER COMPENSATION: Position may be eligible for relocation bonus, extra duty activities pay or other student activities pay as defined in the applicable Bargaining
Unit Agreement.
FLSA: Exempt
RETIREMENT: Eligible for the Maryland State Retirement System.
