The department manages 39 facilities including recreation centers, senior centers and indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities and provides thousands of programs such as out-of-school activities, aquatics, classes, youth and adult sports programs and leagues, senior programs, and therapeutic recreation

Montgomery County Recreation is looking for energetic, highly motivated, entry level Lifeguards

What You'll Be Doing

As a Lifeguard, you will: 

  • Perform patron surveillance during public recreational swim, camps, and assigned program times. 
  • Enforce pool/facility rules in a courteous and consistent manner for patrons in the entire facility. 
  • Ensure the health and safety of facility patrons 
  • Perform pool maintenance and cleaning duties as assigned 
  • Provide appropriate rescue skills as needed as well as provide First Aid and CPR. 
  • Learn something new EVERY DAY! 
  • To be a successful Lifeguard, you MUST: 
  • Be at least 15 years of age. 
  • Have a current lifeguarding, CPR/AED and First Aid certification from the American Red Cross, YMCA or other approved organization. 
  • Those with certifications other than the American Rec Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED Certification will cross over to Red Cross (training will be provided) .
  • Be reliable, have good communication skills, good decision making and strong work ethic. 
  • Be able to pass a water swim and Lifeguarding test to include CPR/AED and First Aid and meet required physical demands. 

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: Three hundred (300) hours of relevant work experience as a leader or instructor in one or more specialized recreation activities.

Education: Ability to read and write. 

Equivalency: None. 

Preferred Criteria, Interview Preferences

Lifeguard: Minimum age: Fifteen (15) years. Valid Lifeguard Certificate from the American Red Cross or Y.M.C.A. Must pass a water test. 

Aquatics program positions may require additional training and/or certifications offered by the Department of Recreation.

Aquatic positions require a Medical History Review with a Drug/Alcohol screen.
