Salary Range: $52,725.89 - $73,236.48 General Statement of Job

Under occasional supervision, oversees and performs electrical installations, maintenance and repairs in schools, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, specifications, schedules and standards. Supervises assigned crew members. Reviews work of subordinates for completeness and accuracy. Reports to the Supervisor of Maintenance Services or Director of Maintenance Services. 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

Supervises the duties of assigned electricians and tradesworkers. Supervisory duties include assigning, reviewing and planning work of others; maintaining standards; allocating personnel; selecting new employees; acting on employee problems; and recommending employee discipline as appropriate.

Diagnoses electrical problems, and supervises and performs electrical installations, maintenance and repairs. Duties include, but are not limited to repairing malfunctions, exposed wires, etc.; replacing wires and parts; restoring power to buildings; installing lights, switches, receptacles, and transformers, etc.; installing computer cabling and various circuits; maintaining stadium lighting; maintaining ventilation systems.

Receives emergency calls from dispatch and assign to staff; responds as needed to after-hours emergency calls.

Reviews the work of subordinates for completeness and accuracy, and offers advice and assistance as needed.

Inspects work in progress and after completion to ensure compliance with applicable codes, specifications, standards and schedules. 

Estimates materials and labor for job assignments, and obtains prices for and orders supplies required for projects.

Assembles scaffolding of up to 30 feet.

Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits various records and reports, including work orders, diagrams, specifications, accident reports, performance appraisals, attendance records, daily reports, etc.

Operates and maintains a variety of equipment, such as a two-way radio, vehicle, air lift, sky hawk, ditch witch, back hoe, truck, auger, hydraulic bender, power tools, hand tools, diagnostic tools, etc.

Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals, such as the immediate supervisor, co-workers, District administrators and staff, students, contractors, utility company personnel, sales representatives, etc.

Complies with all federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, administrative rules, and directives.

Additional Duties:

Provides assistance to other trades employees as required.

Works with architects and engineers as requested to design new electrical installations.

Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Education and Training

Requires a vocational diploma supplemented by ten years of experience in electrical repair, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess a valid state driver's license and be licensed as a Master Electrician.

Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required

Physical Requirements:

Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment, including a two-way radio, vehicle, hand and power tools, etc. Must be able to exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those of sedentary work; work involves driving, walking or standing for periods of time, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, climbing, etc., and performing manual tasks. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of up to 100 pounds and work at heights of 30 to 90 feet.

Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional, structural or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.

Interpersonal Communications:

Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving assignments and/or directions to subordinates and receiving assignments and/or direction from supervisor.

Language Ability:

Requires the ability to read a variety of codes, policies and procedures, equipment manuals, specifications, diagrams, etc. Requires the ability to prepare daily reports, performance appraisals, logs, etc., with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar, using all parts of speech. Requires the ability to speak with and before others with clarity, voice control and confidence.

Intelligence:

Requires the ability to apply rational systems to solve practical problems, and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists, and to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic or schedule form. Requires the ability to apply influence systems in managing crew members, to learn and understand relatively complex principles and techniques, to make independent judgments in absence of supervision, and to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation. Must have the ability to comprehend and interpret received information.

Requires the ability to add and subtract totals, to multiply and divide, to determine percentages and decimals, and to determine time. Must be able to use practical applications of algebra and geometry.

Form/Spatial Aptitude:

Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape, and visually read various information.

Motor Coordination:

Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes using special machinery.

Manual Dexterity:

Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, keyboards, office equipment, control knobs, buttons, switches, catches, tools, etc. Must have moderate levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.

Color Discrimination:

Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color.

Interpersonal Temperament:

Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines. The worker may be subject to danger or risk to a moderate degree.

Physical Communications:

Requires the ability to talk and/or hear (talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words; hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear).

Has thorough knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of the Maintenance Services Department as they pertain to the performance of duties of the Electrician Crew Leader. Is knowledgeable in the codes, laws, ordinances, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Is able to help ensure departmental compliance with all laws and regulations and control the activities of the department through effective supervision. Has knowledge of the organization of the department and of related departments and agencies. Has knowledge of and skill in electrical installation, maintenance and repair methods and practices. Is able to perform duties with extreme attention to detail and safety. Knows how to plan, organize and direct an electrician crew. Knows how to apply supervisory concepts and principles. Has the ability to offer training and assistance to co-workers and employees of other departments, as required. Has the ability to offer instruction and advice to subordinates regarding departmental policies, methods and regulations. Has the ability to use independent judgment as needed in performing routine and non-routine tasks. Is able to take the initiative to complete the duties of the position without the need of direct supervision. Is able to read and interpret building codes, specifications, blueprints and related materials pertaining to the responsibilities of the job. Knows how to prepare daily reports, logs, performance appraisals, etc. with accuracy. Has a comprehensive knowledge of the terminology used within the department.
