Texas A&M University’s Technology Services is seeking a dynamic and visionary Executive Director for IT Research Architecture to join our esteemed institution. This pivotal role requires a leader who can seamlessly integrate themselves within the mission of Texas A&M, working closely with our faculty and researchers to foster strong, collaborative relationships. The successful candidate will be instrumental in designing and building innovative IT services that cater specifically to the needs of our research community, ensuring that Technology Services effectively supports and enhances our research capabilities. 

Building relationships is a cornerstone of this role. The Executive Director will work closely with researchers to understand their needs and provide tailored IT solutions to advance their work. This involves regular consultations, collaborative planning sessions, and ongoing support to ensure that our technology infrastructure aligns with the evolving demands of cutting-edge research and there is consensus among key stakeholders. 

The Executive Director will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including decision-making, budgeting, compliance, and risk management. They will need to demonstrate resilience and a unique problem-solving ability, addressing complex challenges with creativity and strategic thinking. A deep understanding of High-Performance Computing (HPC), administering grants, and the higher education landscape is essential, as is familiarity with security protocols and risk management practices.

Here’s a glimpse of what you’ll do: 

  • Partners with colleges, divisions, and researchers to provide a user-centric approach for all IT research activities across Texas A&M University (TAMU). 
  • Leads project delivery, enhancements, innovations, and research service development teams in support of academic technologies. 
  • Drives innovation and strategic research solutions while ensuring cost-effectiveness and efficiency 
  • Develops and maintains a research technology roadmap to promote the missions of the campus and opportunities for continual improvement in research activities. 
  • Develops security solutions and monitoring methods for research technology services and systems. 
  • Design the annual budget process and provides guidance to departmental and/or division units. 

Schedule: It may include providing on-call support on nights and weekends. This position is expected to be onsite in College Station, Texas. 

Salary: Our targeted salary range is $155,000 – 180,000 annually. 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification 

  • Bachelor's degree and ten years of related experience in information technology management.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Masters and Doctorate degree in a STEM field. 
  • 15 years of related experience in information technology management. 
  • Experience developing, writing, being awarded, implementing, and administering NSF and NIH grants. 
  • Demonstrated ability using change and configuration management strategies. 
  • A demonstrated ability to build consensus amongst stakeholders. 
  • Experience with core IT security activities such as risk management, security architecture, communication and network security, identity and access management, and software development security. 
  • Ability to perform analysis of complex systems, including financial projections and cost modeling for computational systems. 
  • Experience with managing teams that operate High Performance Computing and Storage systems and services. 
  • Understanding of programming methods and techniques for parallel, GPU, and FPGA computation.
