As the Senior Communications Advisor, you will execute our internal communications strategy to keep employees connected and informed. Your purpose is to inform employees and create a shared understanding of Nova Scotia Power’s business goals, values and objectives.

Key elements of this role include:

Key Accountabilities

  • Work in partnership with stakeholders across the organization such as Human Resources, Safety and IT to execute a robust internal communications plan to support our strategic direction & priorities to meet organizational objectives.
  • Shape and draft messaging for President & CEO and the Executive Leadership Team. 
  • Lead the Corporate Communications Assistant role (and communications co-op students when applicable).
  • Manage and update all content for internal communication channels - work with internal stakeholders to produce engaging content including regularly monitoring and refreshing content as needed. 
  • Evaluate the ongoing relevance and effectiveness of internal communications and adjust tactics and messaging accordingly.
  • Ensure internal communication messages are consistent with external messages and, where possible, guide the sharing of messages internally first.
  • Day to day management of internal communication activities

Other Responsibilities:

  • Provide support for issues and crisis communication, including playing a key role in storm communications and response.
  • Represent Corporate Communications on internal special project teams when applicable.
  • Some travel within Nova Scotia is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience in strategic internal communications including leading, developing, and delivering on communications plans, issues management and measurement.
  • Experience providing strategic communications advice to senior leaders.
  • Experience delivering communication services and messaging to achieve change in a complex environment.
  • Exceptionally strong writing skills with the ability to learn the voice and tone of their subjects.
  • Creative storyteller that takes a proactive approach to identify and generate new ways to reach employees in different parts of the business.
  • Ability to translate complex organizational initiatives into digestible, meaningful content that aligns with the larger organizational strategy. 
  • Proven ability to effectively prioritize multiple priorities in a fast-paced dynamic environment while meeting deadlines.
  • Strong leadership skills.

Education and Experience:

  • A degree or diploma in Public Relations, Communications, or equivalent work-related experience.
  • More than seven years’ experience in communications roles, including at least three years providing senior counsel and strategy development.
  • Direct experience working in internal and employee communications
