Job Description

ASUN Pack Rides is a unique, fast-paced work environment. We are recruiting motivated students for Driver positions to work a flexible schedule around school hours, who enjoy working as a team, meeting new people and are not afraid of a challenge. Our mission is to be known as a premier student program and by promoting safe transportation, we foster the connection where students can further their education through academics and community engagement.

ASUN Pack Rides provides a unique working environment that is both exciting and challenging. It is a great way to meet new people and learn more about the campus and Reno community. As a department of ASUN, it affords its student leaders a fantastic opportunity to be involved in a variety of ASUN activities. Pack Rides provides the following services to the University of Nevada, Reno campus community which includes helping other students, ensuring safety, and providing reliable transportation.

  • Continuous shuttle on weekends that picks up from campus and takes students to the WinCo and Walmart shopping centers.
  • Nighttime fixed-route shuttle with stops along campus.

Responsibilities

  • On-demand ride service that runs three miles from campus.
  • Defensive driving strategies to ensure safe and timely transportation of students, faculty and staff of the University of Nevada, Reno.
  • Employ strong customer service skills to make riders feel welcome at all times.
  • Explain important information about personal safety awareness to riders.
  • Follow all federal, state and local laws.
  • Regularly inspect and assess cleanliness and safety of vehicles.
  • Use technology to record statistical usage data of every service call.
  • Define the importance of data and assist in collecting it via the administration of rider surveys.
  • Judge situations to make decisions that ensure the safety of themselves and others.
  • Effectively communicate issues to supervisors at all times.
  • Regularly discuss issues and current events affecting the campus community to be informed at all times.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings to engage in critical discussion to devise solutions to problems affecting the service and predict future challenges.
  • Assist University Police in keeping campus safe by reporting suspicious or unsafe activity.

Required Qualifications

  • Candidate must be enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno
  • Candidate must be in good standing as an undergraduate student
  • Candidate must have and maintain a minimum 2.00 GPA and be enrolled in a minimum 30 credit hours per academic school year at the University of Nevada, Reno
  • Freshman students with no college GPA are eligible, but must be enrolled in the requisite number of credits
  • Candidate must be available weekends and be willing to work late hours
  • Candidate must have a minimum of 3 years of clean driving experience. DMV driving record printout required upon offer of employment
  • Candidate must pass a state and federal criminal background check upon offer of employment
  • Candidate must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test upon offer of employment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong judgment and responsible decision-making skills
  • Strong listening and leadership skills
  • Assertive enough to maintain boundaries and restriction in the interest of safety and Pack Rides Policy
  • Exceptional defensive driving skills after dark, often in heavy traffic and/or inclement weather

Schedule

Expected hours to work per week: Up to 20

Very flexible evening schedule, based on available shifts.

$13.75/hr
