The Akron Board of Education announces an opening for a Part-Time Community Resource Speicalist - Technical Director at Akron School for the Arts - Miller South

Job Code 486, as needed, $34.83/hour, up to 24 hours per week. Collective Bargaining Unit - none

Essential Functions:

Instruct the students the art of theatrical productions

Technical Director to all theatre productions.

Serve as technical director and designer of other production elements as skills

and experience allow

Assist with school events consistent with the expectations and duties listed here

Collaborate with arts faculty and staff in terms of the technical elements for their

use of the performance space

Maintain and manage schedules for builds, load-ins, and strikes

Secure appropriate building permits or all related activities and work calls

Supervise set construction and student stage crew in conjunction with the artistic

staff

Determine construction methods, schedules, materials, and mechanics for all

technical needs of theatrical productions

Maintain the general cleanliness and organization of the work and storage areas

of the theater

Teach or co-teach coursework to students as it relates to theatrical productions

Act as a mentor/role model to high school students, sharing knowledge, skills,

and guidance

Guide and train an inexperienced crew

Maintain and reinforce an environment of safety for all students and staff

Monitor and maintain equipment (including lighting, sound, and rigging)

Lift , push, or pull objects up to 50 pounds of weight (100 pounds with

appropriate assistance)

Work collaboratively with theater staff, student leaders and parent volunteers on

the creative theatrical process

Reports to and carries out any other responsibilities as assigned by the building

Job Description:

This position is responsible for providing technical supervision or assistance for all schedule events or performances in the building's theater. This includes, but not limited to, lighting desgin, sound design, set design, set construction, equipment maintenance, equipment purchases, and equipment rentals. It is also expected that the technical director also train, organize and provide student or professional technicians as needed for all performances in the building. 

Prior to performances the technical director must meet or communicate with the teacher or performers responsible for upcoming events or performances and collaboratively determine what technical assistance is required.
