The Physicist provides all reasonable aspects of medical physics support to radiation therapy as a scientific and technical expert for the department. The Physicist ensures safe, effective, and accurate delivery of radiation to achieve the desirable therapeutic outcome as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist, by applying recommendations from AAPM, ASTRO, and ACR. The Physicist communicates and provides appropriate documentation in a clear, concise manner. The Physicist participates in continuing education to stay abreast of progressive QC/QA methods, patient treatment techniques, and regulatory requirements. The Physicist reports to the Senior Physicist and does not manage any caregivers. The Physicist effectively communicates with all levels of internal and external clients. The Winchester Medical Center radiation oncology program is accredited by APEX and the Physicist will be expected to support re-accreditation. The center is implementing new technology on Varian TrueBeam systems such as HyperArc (treatments to multiple brain SRS lesions in a single isocenter) and iCBCT (iterative CBCT). The Physicist is expected to support the implementation of any future treatment techniques. The department is equipped with 2 Varian TrueBeam accelerators, Phillips Big Bore CT Simulator, Varian GammaMed HDR unit, Varian Aria and Eclipse Systems, and Mobius system.
Education
M.S. or Ph.D. in Medical Physics, or a closely related field, graduated from a CAMPEP accredited residency, and be board certified or board eligible
Experience
Basic knowledge keyboarding and Microsoft Office required
Minimum 1 year of experience required
Previous physician office experience required
Certification & Licensures
Board eligible required.
Must become board-certificated within one year of hire.
