Location

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees’ physical work location is based upon the position’s job duties and requirements, customer service and responsiveness, team and individual performance, and business needs and requirements. Our current practice requires in-office work for all employees for a minimum of three days per week. Business needs and initial onboarding may require additional days in the office.

What You’ll Do

The Development Services Division of the Community Planning and Development Department administers Denver’s building, fire, and zoning codes through review, permitting, and inspection of all new development projects in Denver. Through each of these critical roles, Development Services helps to implement the city’s vision for an outstanding Denver.

The City and County of Denver’s Community Planning and Development Department (CPD) is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual with zoning plan review experience to join our Project Coordination Team as a Development Project Administrator Associate. This role involves reviewing plans for new development projects, which includes examining and interpreting a variety of construction documents and zoning permit applications to ensure compliance with applicable codes, policies, and standards. Additionally, the position entails addressing complex zoning issues and assisting development applicants in navigating large, complex projects. The role works closely with the Senior Development Project Administrator, providing exceptional customer service and problem-solving to ensure the review and approval process is timely, well-coordinated, well-communicated, and predictable, with a focus on successful project outcomes.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining a focus on exceptional customer service focused on efficiently assisting development projects through the development review and approval process
  • Providing zoning review and support for development project review
  • Providing Urban Design review and guidance for projects within Design Review Districts, as applicable
  • Apply relevant codes, focused on successful place-making to create well-designed outcomes through review of development plan proposals
  • Reviewing development permit applications for completeness, accuracy, conformance to applicable regulations and coordination/distribution of applications for review by appropriate section/agencies within established timeframes
  • Documenting decisions, outcomes, and approvals of development project proposals

  • Experience with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, or similar drafting software
  • Knowledge and understanding of reading and interpreting site plans, blueprints, and construction documents
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; Ability to communicate effectively – verbally and in writing
  • Efficiently demonstrates excellent time/work management skills
  • Works well under pressure and able to multitask

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in City or Regional Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Construction Management, Public Administration, Business, or a related field.
  • Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of professional experience reviewing development projects, rezoning, or amendment requests.
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.
  • Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
  • License/Certifications: By position, requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
