The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Data Engineering & Services will play a crucial role in providing guidance, and if necessary, taking a hands-on approach to the design, architecture, and implementation of scalable data solutions. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the availability, reliability, and scalability of data systems. Additionally, the AVP will be responsible for managing a team of 3-6 full-time employees, with occasional oversight of additional contractors. The AVP will actively participate in, and when delegated, lead monthly and quarterly business reviews with customers. This role typically reports to a VP of Data Engineering & Services.
The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in data engineering, showcasing expertise in cloud technologies, data architecture & modeling, data pipeline development. Essential qualifications include a bachelor's degree in technology and a minimum of 15 years of direct experience in the data field. The role demands a high level of creativity and autonomy, along with strong delegation skills, enabling the effective distribution of tasks and responsibilities based on individual strengths and expertise. A hands-on approach to problem-solving is highly valued.
Responsibilities:
- Assist senior leaders shape the technology landscape of a fresh (greenfield) data landscape rollout. Lead the evaluation and selection of data technologies and tools to support the organization's data infrastructure.
- Drive the adoption of the new platform, encompassing data cataloging, automated dataset discovery, and analytics, demonstrating savings in costs along with improvements in risk management and compliance compared to existing solutions.
- Foster a culture of teamwork and creativity within the company by overseeing a team of technology managers, architects, and developers across geographical boundaries.
- Offer direction, support, and coaching to facilitate the professional advancement of team members. Create and execute plans to recruit, retain, and inspire high-caliber talent.
- Provide technical guidance to multiple workstreams to ensure the seamless implementation of the data platform. Reduce time-to-market.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and trends in data management & analytics, and recommend innovative solutions to drive business value.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or master’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Strong background in managing data transformation programs, showcasing expertise in navigating complex data landscapes, implementing innovative solutions, and driving tangible business outcomes.
- Possess experience in developing and implementing both tactical and strategic solutions, demonstrating the ability to address immediate needs while also contributing to long-term organizational goals with innovative and forward-thinking approaches.
- Proven experience as a Data Architect or similar role, with at least 15 of experience in designing and implementing data solutions.
- Strong expertise in data modeling, data warehousing, and data integration technologies (e.g., SQL, ETL/ELT tools, data lakes, data warehouses).
- Extensive experience with cloud-based data platforms, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Hands-on experience with big data technologies, such as Hadoop, Spark, or Kafka.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to quickly understand complex business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Proven leadership skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive projects to successful completion.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated expertise in ETL/ELT processes and tools, particularly within the context of Snowflake.
- Strong understanding of data modeling principles and best practices within Snowflake.
- Extensive experience designing and implementing data architectures on the Snowflake platform.
- Proficiency in optimizing Snowflake performance and scalability for large-scale data environments.
- Experience with data governance frameworks and tools.
- Knowledge of machine learning and advanced analytics techniques.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments.
