Authentic8 is seeking a skilled and experienced Cloud Operations Engineering Manager to lead a team of operations engineers responsible for monitoring and maintaining our globally distributed infrastructure / platform. This role will involve managing shifts and on-call assignments to ensure coverage for incident response, maintenance, and continuous performance monitoring. In addition to managerial responsibilities, this role requires active participation in cloud operations engineering work, serving as a lead engineer and setting the example for the team. The Cloud Operations Engineering Manager will report to the Director of Technical Operations and will work closely with other engineering and Operations teams to ensure the reliability and performance of our SaaS platform.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of cloud operations engineers who work in shifts to monitor and maintain a globally distributed infrastructure/platform.
  • Actively participate in cloud operations engineering work, serving as a lead engineer and setting the example for the team.
  • Oversee incident detection, response, and restoration processes to minimize downtime and ensure quick resolution of issues.
  • Manage routine software deployments and maintenance activities, including patching and kernel upgrades, while minimizing disruption to services.
  • Continuously monitor and assure SLAs for uptime and performance, proactively identifying and addressing potential issues.
  • Lead the tuning of systems and tools used to monitor service level indicators (SLIs) to improve accuracy and responsiveness. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of new features and enhancements into the operational workflow.
  • Develop and enforce operational standards and best practices to ensure consistent performance and adherence to industry regulations.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the team, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and innovation.
  • Serve as a technical escalation point for complex issues, leveraging advanced Linux administration and troubleshooting skills, especially with Ubuntu systems.

Requirements:

  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent work experience
  • Extensive experience as an engineer in operations roles such as Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), DevOps, or Technical Operations.
  • At least one year of proven experience managing and leading teams
  • Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure tech, especially in a globally distributed environment
  • Strong troubleshooting, networking, and systems administration/engineering skills
  • Advanced proficiency in Linux administration and troubleshooting, with a focus on Ubuntu systems
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive performance improvement and maintain SLAs in a high-availability environment.
  • Attention to detail with a focus on ensuring operational excellence and adherence to standards.
  • Experience with incident management and response processes, including familiarity with incident management tools and methodologies. 
  • Ability to undergo and pass a stringent background check
  • U.S citizenship required

Desired:

  • Previous experience in an operations center environment
  • Working knowledge of solutions that involve the following technologies or services:Chef (Ruby) or other Infrastructure as Code technologies, CI/CD, Python, Linux / Ubuntu, Service deployment in accordance with FedRAMP and other security framework requirements, Google Cloud (Compute Engine, Cloud Storage, VPC Networks, etc.), AWS (EC2, Route53, S3, etc.), OpenSSL, OpenSSH, Strongswan, Software load balancer and jumphost tech (Haproxy, Squid, Redsocks, NGINX, etc.)

Salary Range

  • $140,000 - $160,000 + Bonus & Equity
