GENERAL DUTIES

I.T. Senior Associates perform highly complex professional work in technology-related disciplines. While areas of specialization vary, typically I.T. Senior Associates perform a range of work in development/programming, communications, technical support, or similar functions depending on the needs of the Information Technology area to which they report. Work tasks include diagnosing, evaluating, overseeing and resolving highly complex projects. They have wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment and may serve in lead roles on complex programs or projects, and/or serve as a direct supervisor of a unit or group.

I.T. Senior Associates should demonstrate mastery of one or more technology-related disciplines, decision-making ability in situations related to those disciplines, and be able to serve as a resource in these areas. They may contribute to decisions on I.T. policies and technical standards.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

CUNY TV, the City University of New York’s television station, has been educating and informing viewers for more than three decades, remaining committed to extending CUNY’s academic mission to offer lifelong learning opportunities to all New Yorkers. Established in 1985, CUNY TV reaches 7.3 million broadcast households in the New York metro area from its studios at the CUNY Graduate Center. CUNY TV is broadcast over the air on channel 25.3 and in the five boroughs via cable channels, Spectrum and Optimum on channel 75, RCN on channel 77 and Verizon FiOS on channel 30.

CUNY TV seeks to hire an Assistant Network Security Engineer, who will report to the CUNY TV CIO. The Assistant Network Security Engineer will be responsible for network security including, but not limited to, security policies on Palo Alto and Cisco-Meraki firewalls, port security on switches and physical security with S2 system.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Ensures working and operational efficiency of LAN, WAN, and internet. Manages and supports networks consisting of over 30 various model Cisco switches consisting of NX-OS and IOS devices. Will be migrating to an Arista EOS environment soon to support ST 2110.
  • Takes charge of CVE escalations and remediations as needed from CUNY’s security NOC.
  • Provides hands-on support, maintenance, performance monitoring (SNMP), and optimization of all LAN/WAN/Wireless infrastructure.
  • Maintains proper rack cabling discipline (color coding, sized to fit, proper dressing)
  • Makes changes to existing networking infrastructure as necessary to keep up with growth of the business.
  • Ensures stability and security of network by regularly monitoring systems, troubleshooting potential problems, and escalating software issues to vendors for immediate resolution (SolarWinds)
  • Maintains and configures content filtering and remote access.
  • Produces network access protocols and maintains documentation to tightly secure all systems. This includes maintaining and troubleshooting Aerohive wireless network; building, configuring, managing, and maintaining Vertiv HMX KVM network; and working with cross-functional team members to troubleshoot and resolve network and broadcast issues.
  • Creates and disables user accounts and gives users permissions using Active Directory. Will migrate to a SAML auth solution soon.
  • Works with potential vendors to demo their hardware/software to ensure it will work within the network environment.
  • Takes lead on various IT related projects from planning to implementation.
  • Creates manuals and trains users on existing IT technologies and new implementation.

NOTES:

  • An appointment to this Competitive title/position in the Classified Civil Service Title Series will be made with a Provisional status. Employees in provisional status must pass a competitive civil service examination and be appointed from a civil service list to remain in the title/position.
  • Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work remotely and work on-site in the office.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent
  2. An equivalent of ten years of experience post-high school that can be met by one of the following: ten years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology related position; an Associate's degree plus eight years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus six years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position
  3. Demonstrated English Language proficiency
  4. A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.

This title has three levels. In addition to the minimum qualifications above, To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, or another related field
  • 10 or more years’ industry experience designing and deploying IPv4 and IPv6 LAN/WAN/Wireless networks.
  • OEM skills course certifications from major vendors (e.g. Cisco, Palo Alto Networks, Arista)
  • Cybersecurity course completion certificate from accredited provider
  • Experience and familiarity with SMPTE 2110 a major plus.
  • Prior experience with advanced routing protocol design, implementation, and support. E.g. BGP4, IS-IS, OSPF, etc.
  • Prior experience administering Palo Alto Networks firewall products. E.g. Policy management, threat monitoring and remediation, HA configuration, Global Protect VPN clients, etc.

COMPENSATION

The salary is $99,599 .
