About The Position

The Senior IT Specialist will provide 24x7x365 support to the Montgomery County Maryland Public Safety Data Systems (PSDS) environment. This is a critical position that provides direct support for the County’s 911 Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, Records Management Systems (RMS), Mobile Data Systems, and supporting interfaces. The position will need to possess a strong sense of operational awareness and be able to troubleshoot hardware, software, networks, databases, operating systems, and security issues. The candidate will have strong communication and triage skill to work with multiple county agencies and vendors. This position requires after-hour support in an on-call rotation.

Primary Functions

  • Provide 24x7 support to Montgomery County agencies in their duty to provide the latest reliable Information Technology architectures for Public Safety.
  • The position requires a complete understanding of Information Systems standards and vulnerability mitigation within an Enterprise environment.
  • Solid working knowledge of VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V
  • Collaborate with end users at all levels in a professional manner, to design and deliver customer-oriented services.
  • Desktop support and troubleshooting skills to resolve system and application issues.
  • Identify security threats, and threat levels, and develop mitigation plans while developing and implementing security and compliance policies.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and resolve system and application issues in the Public Safety architecture.
  • Create technical documents, drawings, policies, procedures, and reports
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

  • A firm understanding and ability to administrate Microsoft Server and Active Directory management. Also, a strong understanding and ability to deploy applications and patching solutions via MDM, SCCM, WSUS, and Domain GPOs.
  • Extensive understanding of firewall security and configuration using best practices
  • Proactive, self-motivated, work well under pressure and manage multiple issues concurrently.

A criminal background and credit history check will be conducted on the selected candidate prior to appointment and will be a significant factor in the hiring decision.

SALARY : $85,544 (Minimum) - $138,535 (Maximum)

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: Five ( 5) years of Microsoft Desktop and Enterprise Server support and configuration, Hardware support for Desktop clients, Hardware support of Microsoft and Linx Server high availability platforms, Network Support of Firewalls, Switches, Routers, and Enterprise VPN and Working knowledge of languages such as PowerShell, VB, Python, .Net, SQL, etc…

Education : Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related field .

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Physical: The ability to lift 40 pounds to the height of 5 Feet and hold for 30 seconds.

Preferred Criteria

The applications of those individuals meeting the minimum qualifications will be reviewed to determine the extent, relevancy of training, and experience in the following areas :

  • Professional Certifications would include one or more of the following certifications Cisco Certified Network Associate, Certified Information Systems Security Professional, Certified Ethical Hacker, Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, Project Management Professional, VMware Certified Professional, CompTIA (A+, Cloud+, Security+) or similar.
  • 10+ years of Microsoft Desktop and Enterprise Server configuration
  • 10+ years of Hardware support for Desktop clients
  • 10+ years of Hardware support of Microsoft and Linx Server high availability platforms
  • 5+ years of Network Support of Firewalls, Switches, Routers, and Enterprise VPN
  • 5+ years of Microsoft SQL Database Administration
  • Working knowledge of Fortinet and Cisco network equipment.
  • Experience integrating Computer Aided Dispatch systems and interfaces
