Transportation and Environment Senior Legislative Assistant – Montgomery County, MD

This position will be filled at the Legislative Senior Aide I level. The salary range is: $56,220 to $88,686.

Montgomery County Councilmember Evan Glass (D-At Large), chair of the Transportation and Environment Committee, seeks an experienced, knowledgeable and energetic Transportation and Environment Senior Legislative Assistant to help lead his committee work.

Candidates should be able to provide thorough legislative analysis, have experience leading transportation and/or environment legislation, and should be able to communicate effectively about policy issues affecting Montgomery County. The ideal candidate will have experience and a passion for making a difference in road safety and environmental sustainability.

Previous transportation and/or environment policy experience required. This can include a policy role for an elected official, government department or with an advocacy organization.

Responsibilities

Role and Responsibilities, include, but are not limited to:

  • Monitoring policy issues related to the Transportation and Environment Committee;
  • Researching legislative issues and drafting memos and letters;
  • Meeting with constituents, outside-organizations and working with legislative staff to help connect residents with county, state and other agencies;
  • Working effectively as part of a collaborative and dynamic team; and
  • Coordinating community outreach efforts, including community pedestrian safety walks.

Minimum Qualifications

Minium Qualifications:

Experience: One (1) year of progressively responsible experience in legislative/policy research and/or professional level experience in transportation and/or environment policy.

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree. Equivalency:An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
