Overview

M Health Fairview is seeking a Communication Access Coordinator to provide consultation and establish communication access tools for all collaborators involved in the healthcare encounter. This will be for any person needing communication access that falls under the Persons with Communications Disabilities Policy held by Fairview Health Services. The Coordinator will be a meaningful part of hospital accessibility and provide valuable feedback and consultation to frontline staff, regulatory staff, and the community who need to access care. This is an outstanding full time opportunity with guaranteed full time hours!

Responsibilities/Job Description

  • Establish and maintain list of available, standard, and relevant communication aids available for all patients and their companions
  • Demonstrate and train staff on operation of aids
  • Acts as a culturally appropriate point of contact (POC) for patients and medical staff
  • Collaborate with scheduling office and department leadership team to improve department efficiency and create patient communication profiles when needed
  • Provides consultation regarding appropriate communication support to front line staff
  • Document required information and data accurately and in a timely manner
  • Partner with potential interdisciplinary teams to improve provision of care
  • Supports Language Services department with projects as assigned
  • Travel to and provides support in multiple locations and settings
  • Provide support in multiple modalities: In-Person and/or Virtual
  • Demonstrate personal flexibility to meet department needs
  • Manage and communicate unanticipated changes throughout the day

Qualifications

Required

Education

  • Associates degree or equivalent experience in one or more of the following
  • Working with communities who require communication access
  • Disability Studies or Related Field of Study
  • ADA Coordinator
  • Diversity Equity and Inclusion – focus on Disabilities

Experience:

  • Proven understanding of Assistive Devices and other Communication Access interventions for individuals supported by the Americans with Disabilities Act, ACA 1557, and the Minnesota Human Rights Act
  • Fluency in ASL
  • Experience working with people from diverse communities
  • Presentation Experience

Preferred

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Disability Studies or related field

Experience:

  • Fluency in American Sign Language
  • Understanding of ADA Title II and III as it applies to large organizations
  • Proven experience with equipment inventory and tracking
  • Project Management skills

License/Certification/Registration

  • ADA Coordinator Certification

Additional Requirements:

  • Basic understanding of large organization operations and communication
  • Basic understanding and proficiency in MS Office
  • Understanding of basic inventory methods
