The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at McGill University invites applications for a full-time position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor as Director of the Ingram School of Nursing (ISON) and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. A tenure stream position may be available for the selected candidate.

A centre of academic excellence grounded in Strengths-based nursing and healthcare, the School leads the way in nursing education, practice, discovery, and collaboration to meet the healthcare needs of today and tomorrow. The School is committed to the delivery of enriched educational programs and dedicated to a patient and family-centered model with an integration of practice, research, and education at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

Programs include: Bachelor of Science in Nursing; Bachelor of Nursing Integrated; Master of Science (Applied) in Nursing; Master of Science (Applied) in Advanced Nursing; Master of Science (Applied), Nurse Practitioner (Primary Care, Neonatal, Mental Health, Adult Care and Pediatrics); Doctoral and Postdoctoral studies and graduate research traineeships are also offered. The ISON is one of 6 schools in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, which together create an outstanding academic environment where interdisciplinarity and interprofessional collaboration are highly valued.

Faculty members have rich collaborative ties with departments and institutes across McGill and other Quebec universities. With 82 faculty members, 28 administrative staff members, and over 1050 students at all levels, the ISON has demonstrated leadership at the national and international level since its founding in 1920.

As Director, the successful applicant will oversee faculty recruitment, mentorship, and career development while directing the academic activities of the School. The successful candidate will be an experienced nurse leader with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop, communicate, and implement a unifying vision for a high performing and innovative unit. The preferred candidate will have a track record of success in leading inter-disciplinary initiatives, extensive experience in teaching and mentorship, strong interest in fostering social justice within an academic and clinical setting, and a demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Applicants for this position should have substantive experience in both research and teaching at a high level, with expertise in pedagogical and curriculum development. Applicants should also have demonstrated success in administration and leadership, with the ability to build effective teams, mentor colleagues, staff, and students, and engage with clinical and community partners, academic institutions, and governmental agencies. Knowledge of the Quebec health care system will be an asset.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Hold a degree in Nursing;
  • Have an active nursing license or nurse practitioner license within a Canadian jurisdiction;
  • Hold a graduate degree in a health-related field;
  • Have strong leadership qualities, a proven track-record in research and teaching, and the skills and experience needed to lead diverse teams and training programs;
  • Experience in fundraising and service in an advocacy role are considered assets;
  • Be fluent in English and French.
