The opportunity:

EY’s GCR team provides a variety of corporate tax consulting and advisory services to clients focussing on compliance with highly complex and dynamic tax regulatory environment. We are a dedicated team specialising in value enhancing services in the areas of compliance, audit of tax, managed services and tax advisory services. We offer consulting and advisory services across various industries.

You will assist clients to meet the increasing and ever more complex demand for tax compliance, reporting and advisory services. You will also assist our assurance practice in delivering high quality audits applying best in class methodologies and applying your tax technical knowledge.

Your key responsibilities:

  • You will combine your financial services sector and tax technical expertise with our standard global audit methodology, processes and tools to deliver high quality tax audits.
  • Preparing and/or reviewing income tax, deferred tax computations and annual income tax returns.
  • Draft technically correct opinions and reports for clients and the assurance teams.
  • Review reports and advice prepared by junior staff.
  • Assisting with the research and preparation of proposals,
  • Identify income tax issues arising at clients and use various tools and techniques to provide solutions and to replicate at other clients.
  • Liaising with assurance partners and staff to deliver best in class tax audits, within specific timelines.
  • Manage and maintain key client relationships.
  • Produce accurate work and client deliverables to a high technical standard while coaching and mentoring junior staff.
  • Ensure that the work delivered to the assurance practice and to clients are of high quality.
  • Anticipate and identify risks and escalate issues as appropriate.
  • Help to create a positive learning culture, coaching and counselling junior team members to help them develop professionally and personally as an influential member of the team
  • Participate in engagements, assist in managing engagement economics by organizing staffing, tracking fees and communicating issues to project leaders
  • Participate in business development initiatives and build strong internal relationships within the assurance and business tax compliance teams and across other services.

To qualify for the role you must have:

  • HDip (Tax)/ MCom (Tax); B-Comm Honours
  • At least 8 years relevant experience in a corporate tax environment
  • Must have a wide range of corporate tax skills and experience including tax accounting, audit of tax experience, and tax compliance
  • Excellent supervisory, analytical, organizational, and leadership ability
  • Proven ability of managing complex and sizable assignments

Ideally, you will also have:

Financial services sector experience
