Essential Duties

1. Oversees the execution and implementation of detailed project plans in concert with stakeholders. 2. Manages several routine projects simultaneously and ensures that the design, testing, training, documentation and prioritization objectives are met. 3. Assists in refining and re‐sequencing during the implementation and execution phases of assigned projects, as needed. 4. Works closely with business analysts, technical professionals, end users and project stake holders during the requirements, solutions design and implementation phases to develop detailed project plans for implementation. 5. Works on risk assessment, communication planning, development of performance metrics, and project entry criteria. 6. Creates detailed project plans including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation to ensure successful project completion. 7. Manages client expectations and provides issue/risk identification and escalation pathways. 8. May supervise the implementation team of cross‐functional project and technical resources. 9. Designs, develops, and executes communication systems to ensure effective exchange of information between project stakeholders, senior management, and staff. 10. Resolves complex project issues that involve representatives from multiple organizations. 11. Complies with standard policies and procedures. 12. May supervise and train junior project managers. 13. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline; eight or more years of experience in a related area or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Position Focus:

As a leader in the clinical trials project management team, this position will be responsible for oversight of a portfolio of projects assigned as well as supervision of staff supporting the project portfolio. The POD Leader ensures an environment that promotes quality research management and facilitates interdisciplinary research activities including meeting regulatory requirements and escalation of compliance concerns. The role will have independent ownership of assigned projects, and responsibility for oversight of timelines and deliverables. POD Leaders will create and manage project timelines for all assigned projects. The POD Leader will be involved in managing fiscal responsibilities related to projects within their portfolio, as well as facilitating billing for their team within University Service Provider rules. The POD leader is responsible for prioritizing and assigning work within their POD as well as resource tracking and forecasting. This role will also serve to consult with faculty on new projects, support budget development, protocol development, review of contracts and/or grant management (when applicable), and supervision of regulatory submissions during project start up. POD leaders will perform HR functions for assigned staff POD leaders may support studies within the portfolio when required. 

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Master’s degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience; Demonstrated experience with FDA regulated Investigator Initiated Trials in oncology, demonstrated experience with multicenter clinical trials.

Preferred Licenses or Certifications:

Clinical Research Certification (SoCRA CCRP or equivalent).

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Strong knowledge of Good Clinical Practice guidelines. Demonstrated experience interpreting federal and state policies and regulations. Demonstrated ability with interpreting complex clinical trial protocols and federal, state, local guidelines, and contracts.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Proven ability to manage a large volume of clinical trials concurrently, while balancing competing priorities and deadlines. Extreme flexibility in work focus; ability to switch among several different projects without any adverse effects.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Demonstrated ability to report on the status of project deliverables and draft and submit project updates to internal colleagues, senior management, and external stakeholders.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Superior interpersonal skills to interact effectively and represent the school well with faculty, administrators and corporate contracts; ability to work with diverse populations. Excellent oral and written communication skills; very effective listening and feedback abilities. Strong attention to detail.

Excellent organizational skills; Demonstrated ability in Supervisory role to lead teams and direct activities of others.
