Faculty members are expected to:

  • Demonstrate ability to teach mathematics courses effectively to a post-traditional student population. 
  • Engage in scholarly activity, creative achievement, and/or research.
  • Provide evidence of continuing preparation and study.
  • Contribute to student growth and development through advising and assistance.
  • Engage in service to the university and community
  • Demonstrate a commitment to serving a diverse student body by delivering a student-centered education and using approaches that support equitable outcomes for all students.
  • Required Qualifications
  • A minimum of a master’s degree in mathematics or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated potential for success in teaching and professional service activities.
  • Effective Communication skills (written & verbal) to communicate with a variety of persons and groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in an institution with a culturally, economically and linguistically diverse workforce and student population.
  • Demonstrated ability and desire to work collegially with faculty and staff from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Specific Technical, Computer and/or Software skills (as needed). 
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • A PhD in mathematics or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching mathematics at a post-secondary level.
  • Demonstrated contributions to assessment of student learning at a post-secondary institution.
  • Professional development and/or expertise in culturally responsive pedagogy, anti-racist pedagogy, and/or universal design.
  • Experience as an academic advisor for students at a post-secondary institution.

Description of College/School/Unit: The College of Sciences provides a broad range of programs in mathematics, computer science and the laboratory sciences. Programs are supported by state-of-the-art infrastructure, including the Jason R. Carter Science Education Center and the forthcoming Minnesota Institute for Cybersecurity and Forensics. The School/Academic Department: Mathematics and statistics are essential in the study of science, technology, and the quantitative nature of the modern world. Students in our programs gain the analytic skills needed to study and solve a wide range of problems. They also develop superior problem-solving and critical thinking skills that are useful in a wide range of careers in science, technology, engineering, business, actuarial science, and education. In a typical academic year, the faculty member will teach five courses, split between two semesters. Salary: Salary is commensurate with education and experience, and is determined by the salary placement process as outlined in the Inter Faculty Organization (IFO) Master Agreement.

Employment for this position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement for the Inter Faculty Organization (IFO) which can be found at on the Minnesota State Employee and Labor Relations website.
