Aurora hires talented people with diverse backgrounds who are ready to help build a transportation ecosystem that will make our roads safer, get crucial goods where they need to go, and make mobility more efficient and accessible for all. We’re searching for an experienced individual with a strong track record in leading a Quality Management organization to ensure that the Aurora Driver product and services meets or exceeds our quality standard. This individual will be in charge of developing and implementing a Quality Management System (QMS). They must be adept at developing and implementing quality strategies, policies, and guidelines for organizations responsible for both engineering and deployment. This candidate must also be skilled in providing expert guidance on quality engineering best practices and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and standards.

In this role, you will

• Be accountable for working across the organization to further develop QMS at an enterprise level, including departmental-level implementation of quality strategies, policies, and guidelines for engineering and deployment appropriate for self-driving vehicle technologies. 
• Work collaboratively across the organization and utilize existing work products from operations, manufacturing, software, hardware, supply chain and safety to support conformance with applicable standards and the needs of our customers. 
• Provide expert guidance and oversight to cross-functional teams on quality engineering best practices and standards, emphasizing assessment, analysis, and quality control strategy.
• Author and drive consensus on quality-related policy, initiatives for quality culture, analysis, and other quality-related strategies.
• Participate in technical evidence review, provide technical or policy consultation, and support investigation activities.
• Technical evaluation of QMS and their applicable safety case evidence, requirements, integration, testing, processes, and associated work product.
• Engage in issue investigation and root-cause analyses, support corrective action formulation to prevent recurrence or resolve anomalies.
• Provide training and advice to engineering teams performing analysis in support of processes and analysis.
• Tailor quality processes for organizational, operational, and product-oriented applications as they apply to product requirements.
• Champion coordination and collaboration with various departments to develop and implement quality-related policies, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
• Represent Aurora in external engagement activities with partners, stakeholders, and regulators.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent technical experience.
• Leadership experience in driving continuous improvement and leading quality management teams.
• 7+ years of experience in quality management.
• Thorough understanding of product development life cycles that incorporate safety.
• Strong knowledge of safety regulation, standards, and best practices in automotive or other safety critical domains.
• Experience conducting quality assessments to identify potential risks, gaps, and vulnerabilities in the scaling and commercialization of software and hardware systems. 
• A solid understanding of system reliability, fault tolerance, and fail-safe mechanisms in vehicle technologies.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Familiarity with legal and policy considerations related to safety and quality in a safety-critical domain.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to provide guidance and mentorship.

Desirable Qualifications

• Prior experience in automotive, AV technology, transportation or any adjacent safety critical industry
• Experience managing managers and individual contributors
• Experience using technological tools for educational purposes
• Experience with Jira, Confluence, Workday, Slack, Samsara, and/or Fleetio
• Knowledge of DOT and FMCSA policies and regulations
• Knowledge of Environmental Health and Safety and/or OSHA processes, policies, and regulation

The base salary range for this position is $194,000 - $311,000 per year. Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.
