Are you eager to learn how to test satellites? This is a position with an opportunity to launch your career with the newly acquired BAE Systems Space and Mission Systems sector. Our Electrical Special Test Equipment (ESTE) department is looking for an individual to work alongside others in developing electrical test equipment for spacecraft missions. You will receive hands on mentoring in designing test sets which will be used to validate C&DH, ADCS, EPDS, Thermal, and Propulsion systems for our space vehicles. We support a wide portfolio of space vehicle missions, from exciting NASA programs to vitally important earth imaging, climate monitoring, and national defense payloads. As an associate engineer in this role, you will be given the opportunity to explore multiple engineering disciplines in the first few years of your career. Typically, electrical design, mechanical design, system harness development, software tool chain development, and automated test procedure development and execution are focuses of engineers in this department. The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers’ missions. What You’ll Do:

  • Develop CAD models of electronics designs and generate cable designs, schematics, wire lists and detailed and assembly drawings.
  • Draw system level Cable Interconnect Diagrams (CIDs).
  • Develop bill of materials product structures and identify and manage long lead procurements.
  • Specify connector pinouts and mil-standard part numbers in interface control documents (ICDs)
  • Work with production planners and assembly technicians to resolve issues during fabrication cycle.
  • Run automated certifications of our test racks.
  • Report status of tasks being worked and learn how to overcome obstacles that are preventing progress.
  • Network with co-workers in order to understand the expertise of colleagues who can provide consultation for problem solving.
  • Establish and maintain reuse standards of common electrical test equipment.
  • Learn to leverage heritage designs in order to save schedule and cost when appropriate.
  • Review, understand and help derive requirements for the ESTE which is being designed.
  • Audit database of existing capital property for proper naming, part numbers, and ownership.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
  • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or related technical field is required.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following tools is required:
  • Draftsight
  • Solidworks
  • AutoCAD
  • Labview
  • Other schematic capture programs
  • Other 3-D modeling programs
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to exercise them in a technical environment.
  • Solid hands-on design and troubleshooting ability is essential.

A security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Experience with AGILE PDM tool.
  • Skilled in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5M.
  • Spacecraft cable and wire harness design experience.
  • Full lifecycle (design, manufacturing, & test procedure) development.

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $75500 - $93750

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
