Position Summary: 

The Lead Security Officer's primary duties will be to provide a physical security and policy enforcement posture that promotes a safe and secure operational environment for all Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada employees, clients, volunteers, and guests who enter the main campus in search of program resources. The lead security officer will assume supervisory responsibilities for security officers assigned to a particular shift and oversee daily workflow, scheduling, and assignments. The Lead Security Officer will be required to conduct training for all newly hired department employees through the Security Department Field Training and Evaluation Program (FTEP). The Lead Security Officer will observe, report, and document on Itrak all activities in unified coordination with the (CCSN) Surveillance Operations Center in support of the multiple programs operated and administered by Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct individual training and development plans for new security officers that address the needs and expectations of the security department standards, ensuring training is correctly documented and filed.
  • Establishes and prepares shift scheduling for all Security Officers, responsible for ensuring shift duties are performed appropriately and completely.
  • Report any violation of the Security Department and the CCSN Employee Handbook.
  • Work in highly charged emotional environments, may be subject to exposure to blood and airborne diseases, utilizing required PPE as needed to guard against exposure
  • Ensure potentially problematic areas on the campus are being observed and monitored.
  • Ensures the safety of employees, clients, volunteers, and guests during all emergencies including evacuations.
  • Ensures client's compliance with campus program policies and rules.
  • Ensure good customer service and effectively resolve any guest issues that arise.
  • Read, understand, implement, and enforce the agency's departmental policies and procedures. 
  • Maintain awareness of programs and services being offered by CCSN for referral purposes.
  • Consistently display a professional demeanor, patience, fairness, and respect. 
  • Coordinate with law enforcement and emergency first responder agencies as needed.
  • Effectively communicate to diffuse confrontational situations (Verbal Judo) and use force only as a last resort measure to protect clients and staff.
  • Protect all confidential information, company property, and electronic data. 
  • Follow all directives from supervision as requested and without deviation.
  • Give directives to staff in a respectful manner, always maintaining a fair and consistent approach.
  • Operate as an extension of the Security Department Management Team.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to comprehend and execute basic instructions.
  • Possess competent oral and written communication as well as management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet necessary deadlines.
  • Ability to record incident information and transfer information into the body of a comprehensive report and/or oversee the completion of a report by a designated security officer.
  • Ability to utilize critical thinking by using logic, policies, and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum two years of prior security supervision or related work experience with the homeless population.
  • Ability to understand directives and carry them out to completion.
  • Flexible schedule to work after hours, holidays, and weekends, as necessary for operation and training purposes.
  • Bi-lingual a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to hear, see, read, and communicate verbally and in writing frequently with a wide range of people from divergent socio-economic and cultural backgrounds and origins.
  • Ability to remain alert and effective during the entire shift in a 24/7 environment, that includes interior and exterior patrols in all weather at all hours.
  • Ability to continuously sit and/or stand for extended periods. Ability to walk frequently throughout campus and occasionally run as needed.
  • Ability to frequently climb stairs and ladders, stooping, kneeling, reaching, handling, and grasping as needed.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies, as needed.
  • May occasionally have to assist with physically restraining a threatening individual.
  • Ability to regularly lift 20 pounds; ability to occasionally lift and/or drag 50 or more pounds.
  • Ability to operate and use office equipment, security equipment; listen and communicate via two-way radio.

This position pays $18.00 per hour.
