The Environmental, Health, Safety & Security Intern will have a presence on the production floor and plant grounds. The ideal candidate will be encouraged to engage employees in all aspects of Benjamin Moore’s environmental, health, safety & security program. This candidate will be responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, and evaluation of EHS programs, procedures, and processes designed to reduce risk in our operations along with performing tactical responsibilities as outlined below. While this position does not require previous industrial experience, Benjamin Moore is looking or an individual that is enthusiastically interested in a career in environmental, health and safety with the objective in invest in their future talent development.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate EHSS training with site leadership Conduct contractor and visitor safety training when needed
  • Assist with managing the cloud-based training Learning Management System (Vector)
  • Run Vector reports as directed
  • Assist with developing contractor and other Safe Work Permits as needed
  • Review site specific EHSS policies to ensure they are updated
  • Conduct required stormwater inspections as directed
  • Review and update the Incident Management system (Intelex) reports as directed
  • Conduct weekly Gemba safety plant walks with select Area Leads and Managers
  • Archive EHSS files, permits, applications and programs as directed
  • Perform safety risk assessments with Area Leads
  • Perform daily touch points with hourly employees and maintenance
  • Review Safe Work Permits to ensure completeness and accuracy. Report discrepancies identified and collaborate with effected groups to address gaps
  • Update PPE Hazard Assessment
  • Assist with documenting and follow up with EHSS activities, near misses, and safety suggestions.
  • Facilitate Toolbox Talks and on occasion, share SafeStart stories.
  • Assist with following up on Compliance Audit findings.
  • Assist with gathering the waste information being requested by Sustainability
  • Assist with follow up on the tracking of EHS activities
  • Maintain and update Safety Data Sheet database.
  • Participate in Incident Investigation of workplace incidents to determine contributing causes and collaborate with plant personal to recommend corrective-preventive measures to reduce or eliminate hazards.
  • Ensure federal, state, and local rules and regulations are observed.
  • Some knowledge pertaining to: Control of Hazardous Energy, Hazard Communication, Powered Industrial Trucks, Machine Guarding, Contractor Safety, Fire Prevention Emergency Preparedness and Response, Personal Protective Equipment, Fall Protection, Electrical Safety, Ergonomics, Respiratory Protection and Hearing Conservation programs.

Qualifications

  • Must be a self-starter yet able to take direction.
  • Prior experience working in the manufacturing or similar industry is not required.
  • No experience is necessary.
  • Must be currently pursuing a BS degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, or a related science based field.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook).
  • Ability to analyze and dissect incident data.
  • Must be an effective communicator with the ability to speak in front of others.
  • Effective written and verbal communication is necessary.
  • Strong planning, organization and follow up skills.
  • Work hours are generally flexible but on occasions, must be able to work at different times of the day.
