Remote Work Eligibility?HybridIs this a term position?NoIf yes, length of term in months.NAIs this a grant funded position?NoPosition PurposeIn support of Dartmouth’s Alumni Relations mission, the Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement provides leadership, guidance, and support to volunteers to build connection between alumni and Dartmouth through and in partnership with more than 200 recognized and active alumni organizations. Works as part of a team to advise and support alumni organizations. Develops and implements engagement strategies including but not limited to: cross-organizational initiatives, organization governance, communications, operations, and event activity. Partners strategically across Advancement and Dartmouth to support the multifaceted goals of alumni engagement. Provides operational support and reviews and enhances processes and programs. Works on special projects as needed.

  • Bachelor’s degree required with minimum of four years of relevant experience in Alumni Relations program, volunteer management or event experience, or the equivalent
  • Advancement experience in a complex college or university development operation or similar professional experience
  • Talent to manage multiple projects and priorities while working within deadlines to achieve ambitious goals
  • Must be flexible, have great attention to detail, show initiative, and have a results-driven philosophy with the ability to problem-solve
  • Experience working with and managing volunteers
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrated ability to work with and influence diverse constituencies
  • Analytical and strategic thinking capabilities with strong planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to articulate the purposes and programs of Dartmouth to individuals and groups
  • Maturity, intelligence, and professionalism that earn the respect of colleagues
  • Experience employing technology and data analytics to optimize volunteer engagement

  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity and technical proficiency with Encompass (or similar) and learning, mastering, and communicating about system functionalities with volunteer organization leaders and improving processes for training and support
  • Demonstrated aptitude for learning new systems and ability to manipulate and analyze data to inform department decision-making
  • Experience managing programs independently, making process improvements, and reimagining volunteer training programs, offerings, and support
  • Note: Employment will be contingent upon possession of a valid U.S. or Canadian driver’s license and continued qualification as an Approved Driver under the Dartmouth College Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Policy.

Key Accountabilities

DescriptionRecruits, manages, and trains Dartmouth volunteers to advance alumni engagement. Provides strategy, direction, and volunteer oversight for classes, clubs, and affiliated and shared interest groups. Engages diverse leaders and constituencies and serves as a conduit for communication and development of volunteers and the sharing of best practices. Supports operations for volunteer organizations and manages alumni working committees and boards in collaboration with Volunteer Engagement team leadership.

Percentage Of Time30DescriptionCollects, submits, and analyzes constituent group data to assist with annual reporting and strategic decision-making related to programming efficacy. Assesses volunteer experience and make continual improvements. Identifies and cultivate current and future volunteer leaders through the analysis of engagement data, collaboration with constituent groups leaders, individual meetings, campus partner engagement, and attending engagement activities.

Percentage Of Time20DescriptionWorks as part of a team to support and execute volunteer engagement events, communications, and activities including reunions, homecoming, conferences, trainings, and promotion of Dartmouth initiatives to alumni organizations. Attends events and meetings both during the workday and occasionally outside of traditional office hours to engage with constituent group leaders and members.

Liaises between campus departments and constituent groups to build and maintain strong relationships between campus partners, Alumni Relations, and members of constituent groups.
