Description

University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus

Department: Department of Bioengineering / College of Engineering, Design and Computing

Job Title: POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCHER

Position #: 750968– Requisition #: 33398

Job Summary:

The lab of Kristyn Masters (http://kmasterslab.com) in the Department of Bioengineering at the University of Colorado-Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow with a background in biomaterials, tissue engineering, cellular engineering, or related fields. Individuals from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.

The Masters Lab employs techniques from biomaterials, tissue engineering, bioconjugate chemistry, gene editing, and microfabrication, to create in vitro environments that model disease progression. We then apply molecular and cellular biology and computational tools to examine cell/tissue outcomes in these biomimetic culture platforms. Through this approach, we seek to decipher disease pathogenesis, with the intent of using this knowledge to inform the design of clinical therapies. We have a particular interest in using these models to study cellular-scale sex differences and the role of sex hormones in disease onset and progression.

Current project funding supports the creation of tissue-engineered models of both aging and disease, with a specific focus on cardiovascular diseases. The candidate will work in a collaborative, supportive environment with excellent resources and professional development opportunities.

The postdoc and PI will jointly envision projects tailored to the fellow’s skillset and long-term career goals. Postdocs will be expected to carry out experiments, analyze data, and disseminate their findings and data to the biomedical community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop innovative approaches to designing in vitro tissue-mimicking platforms and apply these platforms to advance our understanding of aging and disease pathogenesis.
  • Design and lead tissue engineering research projects, analyze data, and interpret results.
  • Prepare and publish manuscripts in scientific journals and present at conferences.
  • Mentor and train other group members, such as graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Pursue computational, experimental, and clinical collaborations.
  • Develop and progress the candidate’s career goals.

Why Join Us:

The Bioengineering Department was founded in 2010 as a cross-campus program that spans the Denver and Anschutz Medical Campuses of the University of Colorado. Since its founding, the Department has grown rapidly across multiple areas, and now houses an exceptional research funding portfolio, strong training programs including two T32 grants, and commitment to translating discoveries and inventions to the clinic. The Department has its primary research and teaching facilities on the Anschutz Medical Campus, the largest academic medical campus between Chicago and the West Coast, which houses the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy and the Graduate School, the Children’s Hospital of Colorado, the University of Colorado Hospital, and the Veteran’s Administration Hospital.

The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is a world-class medical destination at the forefront of transformative science, medicine, education and patient care. The campus encompasses the University of Colorado health professional schools, more than 60 centers and institutes, and two nationally ranked independent hospitals - UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital and Children's Hospital Colorado. For more information, visit www.cuanschutz.edu.
