As a Commercial Battery Technical Lead within the Decarbonisation and Customer Strategy team (DCS), you will be the subject matter expertise in battery energy storage systems (BESS) for Commercial and Industrial (C&I) customers where you will formulate battery product selections and work closely with the Energy Solutions (SBES) teams in sales, engineering, project delivery and asset management across the entire lifecycle of C&I BESS to ensure solutions meet customer needs and industry standards and regulations.

The DCS team defines and executes market growth strategies and product innovation and provides key analytics and commercial support to deliver on the vision of being the decarbonisation partner of choice for Australian businesses.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Working with existing and new suppliers and supply chain teams to identify and implement BESS solutions for C&I customers including hardware, software and/or integrations to IT platforms for energy management, asset management and virtual power plant (orchestration).
  • Verifying specifications from suppliers and advising internal teams for electrical integration of BESS with control systems, infrastructure and other energy assets including LV and HV networks, solar PV, EV charging and site loads.
  • Supporting the battery design process for BESS customer projects by setting functional design specification boundaries linked to customer requirements and verifying that suppliers’ solutions are met.
  • Providing technical guidance for key C&I BESS projects along the lifecycle to internal teams in sales, engineering, delivery, asset management and virtual power plant by supporting project delivery, resolution of technical issues, ensuring customer experience is maintained, ensuring technical feature that impact commercial aspects are coordinated and reviewing operational performance against original designs and customer business cases.
  • Attend site inspections, project meetings, factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT) for key BESS projects, where required.
  • Continuously monitor and review engineering processes against Australian Standards and industry best practice to identify and implement improvement measures for BESS installation, commissioning and asset management practices.

What you’ll bring:

  • Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent is essential, as is a solid track record in battery storage engineering or related engineering.
  • Relevant experience within the energy industry delivering energy storage or distributed energy projects and an understanding of the core fundamentals of project management and project engineering.
  • Experience in collaborating with battery OEM suppliers and interpreting battery technical data, as well as knowledge of commercial implications of battery technologies and use cases for C&I customers and virtual power plants.
  • Experience working with varying energy storage technologies and familiarity with common BESS monitoring platforms, communication systems and data analysis for maintenance optimisations.
  • High-level of technical written and verbal communication with ability to provide customer-facing presentations and documentation coupled with a strong sense of timeliness, self-motivated, achievement orientated and well disciplined.
