Position Overview:

Are you a hard-working, curious, self-motivated professional with a passion for housing and capital markets? If so, Freddie Mac might be the employer for you! We are looking for a Quantitative Analyst to join the Market Risk team.

Our group resides in the Enterprise Risk Management division and oversees the firm’s exposure to macroeconomic factors including interest rates, volatility, and spread as they impact Freddie Mac’s core business processes spanning the Single Family and Multifamily business divisions i.e., loan acquisition and securitization, retained loans and securities, and new mortgage-related innovations.

We are tasked with understanding, evaluating, and challenging the status-quo to ensure Freddie Mac identifies and manages the risks inherent in the ever-evolving mortgage market landscape. The hired candidate will learn how the secondary mortgage markets work through regular interactions with Cash Window and Multifamily business leaders, focusing on market dynamics, business drivers, and strategies addressing profitability and risk, as well as learning about our funding and hedging strategies.

Our Impact:

  • Collaborate with business leaders to establish risk appetite metrics and limits
  • Regularly review, assess, and report on market risk capital position
  • Perform deep-dives into key business processes to surface assumptions, risks, and identify improvements
  • Assess and challenge new innovations, identify risks and shape mitigations
  • Review and report our daily market risk exposure against board limits
  • Understand business process, risk identification, control design and execution

Your Impact:

  • Execute, analyze, and share reporting attributing risk changes, performance of retained securities, spread risk capital, etc.
  • Develop new analytics to highlight relationships and trends across Freddie Mac’s holdings, including delinquent and re-performing loans
  • Assess scenario analysis related to capital and stress loss
  • Facilitate risk discussions with risk-taking business areas and finance teams
  • Manage technology infrastructure including databases, reporting platform (i.e., SQL, Tableau, WDesk), and analytic process using Python

Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree (or Master's degree with equivalent work experience) in quantitative finance, statistics or a related quantitative field.
  • Coursework or work experience applying predictive modeling techniques from finance, statistics, mathematics, data science, and computer programming to large data sets. Qualifying coursework may include—but is not limited to—statistics, mathematical programming, optimization, machine learning, computational methods, design and analysis of algorithms, Bayesian methods, derivatives, and Monte Carlo methods/modeling.
  • Coursework or work experience writing statistical and/or optimization programs to develop models and algorithms. Programming languages may include—but are not limited to—Python, R, SQL, Java, SAS, and MATLAB.
  • Proficiency with Excel, Python, and SQL
  • Fixed Income or Financial Services experience is preferred.

This position has an annualized market-based salary range of $118,000 - $178,000 and is eligible to participate in the annual incentive program. The final salary offered will generally fall within this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to the responsibilities of the position, experience, skill set, internal pay equity and other relevant qualifications of the applicant.
