GENERAL FUNCTION

This position will primarily support the Litigation team, which is part of the Legal Department as well as providing operational support for the Legal Department in North America. The paralegal will work with the attorneys on the Litigation team, the Head of Legal Operations as well as clients across multiple geographies and functional areas. This paralegal is a team player that demonstrates consistent high-level performance and maintains the utmost professional demeanor and highest level of confidentiality and trust. The paralegal will work under the direct supervision of an attorney. 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Litigation team, which includes several sub-groups: General Liability, Labor & Employment, and Regulatory.
  • Assist in all aspects of handling litigation, including reviewing service of process; managing deadlines; maintaining electronic matter management information; assisting with investigations, assessments, and settlement authority requests; document hold management; collecting information, data, and documents; discovery responses; and electronic discovery obligations.
  • Manage reporting obligations, including preparation of global litigation, financial, and due diligence reports.
  • Facilitate responses to inquiries and audit requests from government agencies and public and private subpoenas.
  • Organize and prioritize daily administrative responsibilities, organize multiple projects with the Department executive leadership team, and ensure important matters receive top priority.
  • Accurately communicate relevant and potentially sensitive information to and from others, maintain a high level of confidentiality, and exercise good judgment.
  • Anticipate and follow up on requests and issues with a proactive, problem-solving approach.
  • Provide administrative and clerical support to attorneys including file and correspondence management, word processing, document summaries, scheduling, travel, preparation of expense reports, ordering supplies, etc.
  • Assist with technology issues.
  • Support the operational efficiency of the Legal Team working with the Head of Legal Operations, as needed.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3+ years of experience with a reputable, highly rated law firm, and/or in-house legal department.
  • Experience supporting and assisting litigation counsel in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-starter who is innovative, able to multi-task, and able to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail, timeliness, and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates a strong sense of urgency and is proactive.
  • Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of constituents, including various internal clients at different levels within the organization, outside counsel in North America and abroad, colleagues within the global Legal Department, and a diverse variety of other contacts.
  • Expert level strength in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Document Management Systems.
  • Passion and commitment to profession.
  • Proven record of high integrity.

  • Paralegal certification
