POSITION:

Network Administrator II, IT054, 100%, Academic Staff, Renewable, 12-month Appointment, one vacancy

POSITION SUMMARY:

Conducts routine operations and modifications of a network including secure connection of wired and wireless devices monitoring, diagnosis, notification, and recovery for varied network issues. Provides some training for clients and staff.

UW-STANDARD JOB DESCRIPTION DUTIES:

  • Monitors, diagnoses, and resolves routine networking issues.
  • Facilitates connectivity for wired and wireless devices, installing hardware and software.
  • Provisions access, analyzes, implements, and reviews security requirements for compliance with established policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Develops and implements network management and monitoring applications.
  • Communicates network failures or degradations to stakeholders.
  • Provides training and support for clients and staff.
  • Recommends documentation and procedure changes for enhanced efficiency and effectiveness.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Understanding of OSI and TCP/IP models, protocols, port numbers, physical/logical topologies, cable types/connectors, network hardware and respective functions
  • Understanding of network availability, network configuration, network security, and network software management (including knowledge/use of network command-line and network operating systems).
  • Understanding and implementation of L2 technologies such as VLAN configurations and STP algorithm/configuration

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • 2+ years of experience as a network administrator in a professional work environment

OR Associate degree in computer science or related field earned by June 1, 2024.

This position is currently ineligible for H1-B sponsorship. A qualification for this position includes independent eligibility to work within the United States upon hire date.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • Knowledge of automation platforms and APIs
  • Knowledge of IP addressing and subnetting
  • Knowledge of network architectures
  • Experience with dynamic routing
  • Experience with monitoring solutions
  • Experience with enterprise firewall management
  • Experience working with centralized wireless controllers, local AP configuration, SSID configurations, etc.
  • Network certifications such as CCNA
  • Familiarity with network switch stacking

SALARY & BENEFITS: 

Salary range for this position is: $60,000 - $70,000 annually. Specific benefit information can be found here. A snapshot of benefits offered for this position include:

  • Hours are pro-rated based on appointment percentage for less than 100%-time employees.

UW-Superior, A Superior Place:
