The role

As a Buyer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Babcock provides services including fleet time engineering, facilities management, waterfront services, logistics and transport within an agreed operating budget, firmly focused on continuous and sustainable improvement in warship and submarine support.

Day-to-day, you’ll commercially represent the company and provide support to the Babcock Marine and Technology Supply Chain in the provision of goods and / or services at the best total acquisition cost, consistent with the specified technical, quality assurance and delivery requirements which are critical to the success of this business.

• Procurement both direct and indirect basis
• Provide commercial, supply chain and procurement expertise to increase value outputs, for both products and services
• Conduct sourcing activities including negotiation of terms and conditions 
• Own and be accountable for existing and new relationships with management personnel in all relevant business units and external entities

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 3 days in the office/onsite and 2 days working from home.

Essential experience of the Buyer:

• Experience in use of MPS and MRP systems
• Understanding of operational and service related buying in highly pressurised environments
• Experience in a procurement and supply chain environment 
• Analytical thinking, good communication, interpersonal and persuasion skills 
• Good planning and organisational skills

Qualifications for the Buyer:

• Ideally MCIPS qualified or working towards MCIPS qualification, however part qualification is acceptable and Lean Six Sigma certification is desirable.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
