Job Description

We are seeking an AVP, E&S Casualty Underwriter for our E&S Casualty team supporting the East Coast. Our preference is for the position to be located in New York City. Sompo International Insurance’s U.S. Excess Casualty team brings significant expertise and deep-seated relationships with select appointed wholesale brokers. They offer meaningful in-house capacity, a consistent underwriting approach, timely and efficient turnaround, and a seasoned claims team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Underwrite lead and excess liability business in accordance with Sompo’s process, procedures, business philosophy and appetite.
  • Ability to evaluate all individual risk characteristics to properly determine capacity, attachment point, terms and pricing.
  • Maintain and enhance existing wholesale broker relationships, as well as identify and develop new relationships both regionally and outside the territory.
  • Adapt underwriting techniques to underwriting guidelines and rating plans to write a wide range of account size and operations.
  • Develop and execute marketing plan aimed at retaining existing business and producing new business.
  • Ability to operate and lead a team-based environment which includes claims, legal and actuarial staff.
  • Collaborating and cross selling with other lines of business within Sompo.

Qualifications include:

  • Strong Established relationships with regional wholesale brokers with ability to move business a plus.
  • 8+ years of casualty underwriting experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year College or University
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • CPCU designation and/or Surplus Lines license preferred

Salary Range: $110,000– $185,000 Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
