Job Summary:

The Planning and Design Business Line (P&D) advances excellence in the built environment by supporting KP’s mission to provide high-quality, affordably priced speed-to-market facilities for every project, in every location, every time. P&D provides subject matter expertise, tools, and governance in support of the Enterprise Capital Program. P&D has three Program Delivery Centers of Excellence: Design and Brand Standards Management, Clinical Planning, and Engineering Design. The Design and Brand Standards Management COE’s primary focus is to develop, maintain, and enforce the Enterprise Facilities Design Standards. The standards encompass items ranging from site design concepts through architectural and interior design specialties, set an appropriate level of quality, and create a consistent experience across the Kaiser Permanente markets. Design tools are developed at an elevated level of detail by P&D and approved by multi-disciplinary teams such as content expert panels and subject matter experts.

In addition to the responsibilities listed below, this position is responsible for facilitating projects under minimal supervision with general instructions on routine work and new assignments, contributes to architectural designs requiring knowledge and application of architectural principles and concepts; performs routine design tasks Including functional programs, space programs, room templates (may include preparing construction drawings on Revit, CADD); follows space allocation rules and specifications while coordinating with hospital/medical facilities users; writes performance specifications for building materials, installation criteria, the quality of finishes, and other related details; performs research on building codes and materials; and assists in the design of one part of a project, or on a small project.

  • Facilitates planning and design projects by: using judgment and discretion to interpret guidelines to assist with the resolution of non-standard problems. communicating between the project team and others inside and outside of the organization; and developing training materials for the team or consultants on strategies and concepts, coordination, and management of the support teams area of expertise.
  • Supports NFS program deliverables by: working on components of National Facilities Services (NFS) initiatives and projects from initiation through design phase with close oversight from senior management; developing, analyzing, and executing project plans which include scope identification and management, schedule, inter-dependencies, and resource forecast; monitoring project performance (e.g., on time, within scope, and with quality) against plans and provides input and justification for costs and budget impact; managing project activities related to organizational change management (e.g., development and execution of user adoption, implementation, and training plans) as defined by the project; and allocating resources, establishes schedules, and makes task assignments.
  • Contributes to consultants relationship management by: providing technical support and coordination to designers/drafters/engineers and architects/planners/engineers; and obtaining and applying comprehensive research knowledge on building codes and materials from vendor.
  • Acts in compliance with KP requirements by: developing a full working knowledge of the enterprise facilities design standards development to ensure quality solutions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Architecture, Engineering (e.g., Electrical, Mechanical, Structural, etc.), Planning (e.g., Space Planning), Interior Design, Construction Management, Cost Estimating, or related field AND minimum three (3) years of experience in planning, architectural, design, engineering, CADD, hospital/medical facility, healthcare planning, construction estimating, or a directly related field OR Minimum six (6) years of experience in planning, architectural, design, engineering, CADD, hospital/medical facility, health and safety administration/management, construction estimating, or a directly related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • LEED Accredited.
  • Registered Architect license.
  • EDAC Certification.
  • Three (3) years of experience in healthcare or another heavily regulated industry (e.g., Banking).
  • One (1) year experience developing and delivering presentations to management.
  • Five (5) years experience in business analysis.
  • Two (2) years experience working with advanced Excel functions including, formulas, pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.
  • Two (2) years data analytics experience.
  • Two (2) years experience designing and delivering training programs.
  • One (1) year experience working for a Program Management Office (PMO).
  • One (1) year inter-regional project management experience.
  • One (1) year experience managing vendor contracts and relationships.
  • One (1) year experience working with collaboration software (e.g., SharePoint, MS Teams, etc.).
  • Two (2) years experience working with Data Analysis Software (e.g., Macros, Miro, PowerBI, Tableau, etc.).
