The teacher assistant would work with students in small groups from kindergarten to fifth grade to support literacy and math skills. The teacher assistant may have to cover a whole class of students for a short period of time if the teacher is in a meeting or may have to serve as a substittute for a whole day if a sub is not available. Teacher assistants are expected to do a morning and afternoon duty such as monitoring breakfast in the cafeteria, hallway duty, or car rider line duty.
Due to Union Elementary being a Title I school, teacher assitants must meet the "highly qualified" status. Examples of HQ include having an Associates Degree or higher, a minimum of 48 semester hours of coursework at an institute of higher education, or passing 3 Workkeys Assessments.
