The Environmental Specialist is responsible for supporting multimedia environmental compliance at power generation facilities. The position will also support citing, permitting and compliance for power generation and other industrial sites.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Guide operations teams of multiple facilities in complying with applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Lead in the development, implementation, and review of policies, standards, and procedures to comply with applicable permits and regulations.
  • Maintain proactive lines of communication with decision-makers and stakeholders, including the facility operations and asset management teams and owners, as appropriate, to keep all parties informed of potential regulatory impacts on facilities. This includes tracking the development of regulations as well as potential operational changes at facilities to assess regulatory impacts.
  • Provide environmental consulting support to clients in a variety of industrial sectors, potentially including air permitting, air permit compliance, process evaluations, development of complex air emissions calculations, wastewater, water supply, waste characterizations, waste disposal, remediation, sustainability program management, due diligence assessments, and auditing.
  • Provide professional interface with regulators and officials, including preparing for and coordinating inspections; responding to information requests; developing strategies, permit modifications and renewals; and reviewing routine compliance reports.
  • Provide support for facility and corporate environmental, social, and governance programs and reporting.
  • Participate in or manage technical projects from proposal through completion.
  • Coordinate periodic facility audits to ensure compliance with environmental regulatory requirements.
  • Work closely with all departments and employees to contribute technical and regulatory expertise necessary for optimal operation and management of assets.
  • Assess potential regulatory impacts changes in project operations.
  • Participate in incident investigations and root cause analyses, as well as implementing corrective actions.
  • Provide coaching, assistance, and tools to all levels of the business to promote and drive a safe and environmentally compliant working environment for all employees.
  • Prepare periodic reports as required.
  • Manage client contractors or vendors supporting regulatory compliance.
  • Assist with developing budgets and managing expenses related to regulatory compliance.
  • Up to 25% travel to facilities in the CAMS fleet, including out-of-state travel.
  • Four-year undergraduate degree required.
  • 5 years’ experience in environmental regulatory compliance is preferred, specifically in the power industry.
  • Experience in the use of software applications such as Excel, Word, MS Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, etc. is vital.
  • Experience in GIS applications such as ArcGIS is desirable.
  • Strong analytical skills with an attention to detail and an investigative mindset.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to organize effectively and facilitate process teams to implement facility improvements.
  • Ability to handle rapidly changing situations under stress and to work extended hours on short notice when required.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to digest large, complex volumes of information and summarize for wide dissemination.
  • May perform repetitive and non-repetitive physical duties that may require lifting, pushing, pulling, stretching, bending, climbing, working in awkward positions, and lifting to 50 lbs.
