Business Development Associate (Akela)

Responsible for facilitating the Business and Proposal Development Process with focus on leading Client and Industry Engagement around Life Science, Higher Ed, Healthcare, and other future sectors. In addition, work with the internal team for sales tracking management, capture planning, and proposal development and miscellaneous marketing and business development tasks to achieve the Akela’s Sales goals for new work added and strategic growth. Works directly with the Akela team.

Essential Duties (with approximate time commitments)

Client and Industry Engagement (60%)

  • Supports and attends industry meetings, events, and conferences.
  • Generates and develops new business relationships.
  • Holds pre-engagement meetings/calls with Engineering Salespeople, Project Managers, Office Executives and Sector Leads to discuss objectives of the engagement.
  • For engagements with clients that require gathering multiple pieces of intel, completes a Client Engagement Strategy before meeting/call with client.
  • Records, organizes, and disseminates information from engagement activities to appropriate personnel – includes detailed intel gathered for capture efforts.
  • Uses social media to promote Akela through industry events, conferences, etc. 
  • Organizes and arranges meetings, lunches, dinners, etc. with Clients and Industry Partners. Includes Akela team members in events. 
  • Addend industry conferences to gather upcoming project intel and share with Akela Salespeople. 
  • Help assemble strategic partners to team on new project pursuits. 

Sales Tracking Management (15%)

  • Ensures single sales opportunity (SSO) leads are timely and accurately entered into the sales tracking program, Vantagepoint and Vantagepoint CRM.
  • Follows Vantagepoint CRM procedures for entering and managing sales opportunities.
  • Understands the need and purpose of data requirements for each sales opportunity
  • Maintains the accuracy of all sales records within their area of responsibility.
  • Generate reports from Vantagepoint, as needed.
  • Coordinates with Akela finance team, Engineering Salespeople, Office Executives, and Sector Leads, to maintain sales data integrity.

Capture Management for Akela Pursuits (10%)

  • Assists capture manager in developing the Capture Plans – includes reviewing and providing input for all sections of the capture plan with latest intel, strategy development, action items, value propositions/win themes, teaming, client analysis, etc.
  • Sets capture schedule – includes scheduling Capture Meetings with capture team at agreed-upon intervals/frequency.
  • Co-facilitates capture meetings with Capture Leader or Principal in Charge
  • Proactively coordinates with internal capture team members.
  • Record and organize detailed information in the capture plan.
  • Serves as proposal manager to ensure capture strategy is implemented into the proposal and interview presentation.
  • Coordinates with proposal manager on drafting strategic narratives for the proposal.

Proposal Development (10%)

  • Proposal Manager for priority and strategic proposals for Akela.
  • Leads proposal development with the Capture Manager.
  • Ensures a quality and compliant proposal is submitted on time to the customer.

Miscellaneous (5%)

  • Market and needs analysis (clients/opportunities, CIP analysis, industry trends)

Supervisory Responsibilities 

  • Typically, does not require supervisory responsibilities. If required, carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Experience 

  • Minimum of 15+ years of proposal development and/or marketing experience in related services.

Education 

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Communications, or Business Administration, or equivalent work experience.

Qualifications

  • Must have strong and effective communication skills and relationships with external clients and teaming partners. 
  • Must be a proven self-starter, capable of formulating strategies, goals and objectives resulting in financial benefits to the organization. 
  • A significant degree of skills, knowledge, expertise, creativity, collaboration, and latitude is required.

COMPENSATION

The salary range for this position is $103,000-$162,000. This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.
