Description

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Dentistry DOTHAN, AL is seeking a Dental Assistant II, under the general direction and supervision of the Dental Clinic Coordinator, and the Lead Dentist and Clinical Director. The DA II is responsible for clinical support for the UAB School of Dentistry Dothan clinic including, but not limited to, maintaining a high standard of patient care by helping to assist the faculty dentist and dental students to provide outstanding dental care for all patients. DA II will be responsible for chairside dental assisting, dispensing, sterilization, radiography, and/or clerical functions.

Responsibilities:

  1. Facilitates the delivery of clinical care within the dental clinic, providing clinical dental assisting duties for dental faculty and/ or dental students.
  2. Performs chairside dental assisting duties to include operatory set-up and breakdown using proper infection control protocols; is comfortable and competent using electronic technology in collecting and recording patient health histories and dental charting; appropriate patient communication and management. Works with the clinical team to implement and maintain the infection control policies and procedures. Serves as role model and mentor for dental students for infection control policies and procedures.
  3. Prepares, sterilizes, and properly maintains dental instruments/supplies/equipment according to manufacturer's instructions in the sterilization area.
  4. Organizes, stores, and tracks electronic inventory of dental instruments/supplies/equipment in the dispensary, under the direction of the lead dental assistant. Supports dental student clinicians and contributes to an efficient productive clinic operation and positive patient experiences. Is competent in instrument transfer, field isolation, dental material handling for all general and specialty dental procedures performed by a general dentist. Provides support during medical emergencies. Provides patient care support by exposing digital diagnostic images and organizing and storing those images Participate in meetings approved by UAB SOD required for advancement of your profession.
  5. Perform other duties as assigned.

(Hourly Rate: $15.50 - $20.15)

Qualifications

Graduate from an accredited Dental Assistant Program is required; work experience may substitute for education requirements.

The ideal dental assistant candidate will be a highly motivated and detail-oriented team player, with a focus on exceptional patient care.
