Job Description

Join our team as a Communications Specialist to drive strategic communication planning for our ITSI project, crafting and executing a comprehensive strategy that underscores our impact on global semiconductor supply chains. Responsibilities include producing compelling content across multiple platforms, managing media relations, engaging stakeholders, overseeing digital communication channels, promoting project events, and monitoring communication effectiveness through regular reporting and metric analysis. The ideal candidate will excel at building relationships with journalists, collaborating with diverse stakeholders, and leveraging digital tools to enhance outreach and engagement. 

As part of an ambitious initiative funded by a $13.8 million cooperative agreement under the CHIPS Act of 2022, Arizona State University (ASU) is at the forefront of enhancing semiconductor assembly, testing, and packaging capabilities across ITSI partner countries in the Americas and Indo-Pacific. This effort aims to foster a resilient supply chain for U.S. semiconductor manufacturers, contributing to global economic growth and technological advancement.

Essential Duties

The Communications Specialist plays a vital role in the strategic dissemination of information and engagement with diverse stakeholders to promote the goals and achievements of the Diversifying Semiconductor Supply Chains project. Reporting to the Managing Director, this position is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive communication strategies, managing media relations, and enhancing project visibility among key audiences.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Communication Planning: Develop and execute a comprehensive communication strategy that aligns with the project's objectives, highlighting its impact on enhancing global semiconductor supply chains.
  • Content Creation and Management: Produce high-quality, engaging content for a variety of platforms, including press releases, project updates, newsletters, and social media posts, to inform and engage stakeholders and the public.
  • Media Relations: Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries, build and maintain relationships with journalists, and pitch stories to increase project visibility in relevant media outlets.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with project team members, industry partners, government officials, and academic institutions to ensure cohesive messaging and promote project initiatives.
  • Digital Communication: Oversee the project's online presence, including website content management and social media engagement, to ensure consistency and impact of digital communications.
  • Event Promotion and Support: Coordinate the promotion of project events, including workshops, conferences, and stakeholder meetings, to maximize attendance and engagement.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor the effectiveness of communication activities, provide regular reports on communication metrics, and adjust strategies as needed to enhance outreach and impact.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Communications, Marketing, Education or a related field AND three (3) years of related work experience in the development of comprehensive and creative communication; OR seven (7) years of related work experience; OR Any equivalent combination of experience and or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved. Certificates from recognized programs that verify mastery of tools and techniques relevant to the assignment may substitute for up to six (6) months of experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of having a degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience in communication, media relations, or a related role, preferably within international development, technology, or the semiconductor industry.
  • Evidence of a proven track record of developing and implementing successful communication strategies.
  • Evidence of effective writing, editing, and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Experience in media relation skills and experience managing social media platforms.
  • Experience coordinating event promotion and managing digital content.
  • Experience in working collaboratively in a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment.
  • Experience in multiple languages relevant to ITSI partner countries is an asset.
  • Willingness to travel as needed to support project objectives.

Working Environment

Activities are generally performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 25 pounds. Regular activities require the ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and are subject to the resolution of conflicts. May be required to perform tasks in the field within and/or across University campuses. May be required to travel domestically or internationally for development, implementation, and oversight of global initiatives. Ability to communicate to perform essential functions.
