In Azerbaijan, UNDP has been actively engaged in supporting the country's efforts towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and addressing key development challenges. With a focus on areas such as environmental sustainability, governance, gender equality, and economic empowerment, UNDP strives to promote inclusive and sustainable development for all.
As Azerbaijan prepares to host the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) in November 2024, UNDP plays a crucial role in providing support and assistance to ensure the successful organization and outcomes of this global event. COP29 will gather world leaders, policymakers, experts, and stakeholders to discuss and negotiate actions to address climate change and advance global efforts towards a sustainable future.
The intern will have the opportunity to contribute to UNDP's initiatives and projects in Azerbaijan, particularly in the context of COP29. By assisting with research, project coordination, and event planning related to COP29 preparations, the intern will gain valuable experience and insights into the complexities of international development cooperation and climate action.
The purpose of the Internship programme is to provide students and recent graduates from diverse academic backgrounds exposure to development issues and a first-hand experience with the day-to-day working environment of UNDP, either in person or remotely. In light with this, UNDP Azerbaijan is creating a vacancy announcement for internship positions, with the purpose of soliciting applications from eligible candidates, in order to create a roster of interns.
The objective of this assignment is to expedite the execution of essential administrative tasks and operations. The intern will play a crucial role in providing technical support to the office and project team (s), facilitating the implementation of administrative activities to enhance efficiency and streamline processes.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the guidance and direct supervision of UNDP Operations Manager, UNDP Portfolio/Project Managers, the interns are expected to perform the following tasks:

Ability to manage events, including venue identification, accommodation, logistics, catering, transportation, and cash disbursements, etc.

Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
(a) Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher);
(b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme and other social sciences
(c) Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation;
(d) Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program.

Contract duration
The initial internship agreement will be issued for 3 months, with the potential for extension up to an additional 3 months, contingent upon the Hiring Unit's request.
Intern’s status
Interns are not considered as having the status of a staff member. During the internship with UNDP, interns are subject to the Regulations Governing the Status, Basic Rights and Duties of Officials other than Secretariat Officials, and Experts on Mission (ST/SGB/2002/9).
Interns must not represent UNDP in any official capacity or commit resources on its behalf.
Stipend
Insurance
Interns are responsible for securing adequate medical insurance for the duration of their internship with UNDP. UNDP will not reimburse the medical insurance of the intern. Any costs arising from accidents and illness incurred during an internship assignment will be the responsibility of the intern. Applicants for internships must show proof of valid medical insurance for the duty station in which they will intern.
Subsequent Employment
There is no expectation of employment with UNDP following an internship. Interns cannot apply for, or be appointed to, any position during the period of their internship.
Third-party claims
UNDP is not responsible for any claims by any parties where the loss of or damage to their property, death or personal injury was caused by the actions or omission of action by the interns during their internship.
