Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Admission

University of Virginia

Admissions Officers have a combination of planning and implementation responsibilities in delivering the admissions function for the University or a school within the University. They have responsibility for a particular department or function within an admissions office, such as recruitment or transfer students, often with managerial oversight of professional and administrative support staff. They support and help set goals for their departments or functions, and often allocate and supervise staff and resources, and evaluate results. Admissions Officers exercise discretion and have a degree of independence in daily decision-making in support of the school's admissions objectives.

The Office of Undergraduate Admission at the University of Virginia invites applications for the position of Assistant Dean of Admission. Under the supervision of an Associate Dean, the Assistant Dean performs duties related to the recruitment, admission, and enrollment of students to the University.

The Assistant Dean’s responsibilities include developing working relationships across a broad set of groups and individuals, from students, teachers, and families to alumni, school counselors, student support staff, and members of our high school and college communities. We are seeking caring, creative, collaborative, and student-centered individuals who are interested in a career that is fulfilling and rewarding and who want to help us strengthen the excellence, diversity, success, and sense of community of the UVA student body for the next decade and beyond.

As Admission professionals at the University of Virginia, we are committed to caring for students from their first interaction with the University through Final Exercises and beyond; we compete for talented students from all walks of life who will make each other better; we collaborate joyfully with colleagues to help these students make the most of their gifts and their time on our campus, which we call the Grounds; and we are working to make UVA more accessible to low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented high-school students.

Collateral admission responsibilities for this position will be assigned based on the Assistant Dean’s interest, skills, and experience as they intersect with the priorities of the office.
