This job is located on site at the Central Library in downtown Denver with very limited opportunities to work from home. The successful candidate for this position should be prepared to pay for parking (~$200 per month), use public transportation or other alternative means of transportation to get to and from work. For approximately the next six months, the primary work schedule will be Sunday through Thursday. 

What You'd Do:

The Central Operations Library Assistant V is responsible for providing library customer service across all service points at the Central Library, as well as supporting administrative tasks of the Central Operations department. Reporting to the Central Operations Manager, the primary duties of the position include:

  • Cross-train in basic functions at all service points in the Central Library. Regularly work at each service point and fill in for planned and unplanned vacancies in public service departments. Assist in developing work schedules to provide adequate coverage.
  • Provide excellent, welcoming customer service, including strong referrals. Resolve problems encountered during daily operations of the Central Library and recommend consistent standards for problem resolution.
  • Create and maintain a welcoming, safe and inclusive environment for all library visitors. Use trauma-informed practices and de-escalation skills to provide services to vulnerable populations.
  • Support cross-departmental communication and collaboration between Central public service departments. Facilitate monthly cross-departmental meetings. 
  • Submit work orders for facilities issues impacting public service areas in the Central Library. Develop and communicate processes for maintaining cross-departmental building areas. 
  • Make recommendations for customer service consistency and process improvements.
  • Make purchases for the Central Operations department, reconcile purchase transactions, and create purchase requisitions.

We are looking for a leader in services to children with a sincere desire to improve our community and enthusiasm for leading a team through significant change. 

Our ideal candidate has:

  • A minimum of 3 years of clerical experience.
  • Ability to work onsite with a focus on library open hours, including until 6pm and weekends. 
  • Knowledge of library services, trends, and best practices. 
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to navigate complex administrative processes. Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and creating inclusive environments.
  • Proficiency with technology and library-related software.
  • Ability to create and maintain positive relationships.
  • Ability to thrive through significant changes in working environments.
  • Additional language skills, especially Spanish, are a plus but not required.

Salary:

The salary for this position may vary depending on location, experience, and qualifications. The starting hiring range is $22.76-28.45.
