Requirements / Qualifications

BASIC FUNCTIONS:

Participate in the planning of nutritious, cost-effective and attractive meals, train staff on various related topics and provide highly responsible assistance to the Director of Food Services. Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Nutritional requirements of school-aged children.

Menu analysis and planning techniques including food values, combinations, allergies and substitutions.

Principles of quantity food preparation and nutrition.

Food terminology, markets and commodities.

Applicable laws, rules and regulations related to assigned activities.

Health, safety and sanitation principles and procedures and applicable state regulations.

Spreadsheet computer software programs and word processing.

Budget preparation and control.

Principles and practices of supervision and training.

ABILITY TO:

Plan well-balanced, nutritional and appetizing menus within a fixed budget.

Use computer software to create menus and analyze costs.

Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals.

Interpret and apply federal, state and local policies, procedures, laws and regulations.

Provide training to district personnel in establishing and maintaining healthy and nutritious food service programs; prepare and deliver oral presentations.

Train, supervise and evaluate personnel.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination equivalent to: Bachelor's degree in Nutrition/Dietetics, Food Service Management, or Business, (Must be attached to the application) and two years increasingly responsible experience as a supervisor in food service or institutional food management involving planning and preparation of food in large quantities. A registered Dietician (preferable). Requires California Drivers License.

  • Associate's Degree OR Bachelor’s Degree OR Higher Education Degree
  • If selected for the position, out-of-district applicants must be T.B. tested and fingerprinted. A practical skills test may be administered at the time of interview.
